I went for a run just as my wife had gone into labor. That's the only time I've run with my phone.

I need to get Google Glass so I can just tweet and post pics from the trail without having to pull my phone out of my fuel belt holster. Some days, I store my phone in my Camelbak, where I keep it next to my iPad.

Well I'm obviously not going to go on an out and back run when I'm on call. Think before you speak. Sheesh.
It's not manual labor they need me for. It's my knowledge and experience. "Sheesh."
heh, my watch ran out of batteries, so used my iPhone as a stopwatch/chronograph for my track workouts last summer. You have to use an app that doesn't make it too easy to accidentally tap the start/stop buttons on the screen.
I don't have a cellphone, so I never carry one on runs.
I'm amazed how f*cking stupid people have become about "Emergencies". What, we didn't have emergencies 10 years ago before EVERYONE had a phone? Cars didn't break down? Work didn't need you? Women didn't go into labor?
Of course they did.
The difference was, people could DEAL with these things. Car broke down? Walk. Work needs you? They can wait until you get home from your run. Women go into labor all the time -- often for many hours. You think this can't wait an hour until your run is done?
People are so pathetic and weak now. Take your phone away and you can't function.
Spoken like a true Luddite. People choose to stay connected because they like it. You judge them not knowing the difference it makes, since you prefer communication by telegram. Or do you refuse to use that technology, too?
We lived without cell phones fine, yes. But we spent hours planning where to meet, waiting for friends to show up, worrying about logistics, etc. And once in awhile there were even real emergencies that didn't end well because of old technology.
LOL! You spent HOURS planning where to meet?
"We're all meeting at the bar at 9:00. We'll be there for an hour before moving on, see you then".

No, you MORON. I run around a track. I round around pond. I run around resevoir. I do 2-3 smaller loops.
I DO ONE OF THE OTHER MILLION THINGS ON THE SPECTRUM BETWEEN RUNNING IN CIRCLES AROUND MY DESK AND RUNNING AN OUT-AND-BACK ROUTE.
Just because 90% of LetsRunners work trivial jobs waiting tables, selling shoes, or some other meaningless 9-5 gig, doesn't mean that aren't some of us who have legitimate responsibilities. One of the ways we manage those responsibilities is by running with our phones. It's small price to pay to still be able to run 7 days a week while working 60-70 hours a week. And like I said originally, I also run home from work, which means I need to carry my phone on some runs.
Wow, we're lucky that you take some of your precious time to share your experiences here. Thanks.
Usually no cell phone. But when I'm on-call I'll put it in an armband so I can get back quickly if I get paged.
I don't run with my cell phone. It's only usefulness is to troll LRC when I finish showing off my wheels to the neighborhood. Sometimes, people come out of their homes just to applaud my training runs.
Can't be any worse than this crazy, paranoid chick who wants to run with a gun:
I don't run with a phone. I'm not a fan since I don't like carrying it and it's too heavy for my shorts pocket. I also don't have kids yet so I'm sure that might make a difference in the future. Right now I'm out of town and am reading this thread on my phone as I get ready to run. Turned on my Garmin and the POS didn't charge right so the battery is about dead. Looks like I'll be running with my phone for the second or third time this year.

They need to make an iwatch. Not a stupid bluetooth watch requiring a link to your phone, but a watch with text and voice capabilities on its own!
Oops, they didn't do it right. Now you have to carry the iwatch AND the phone! And they are selling it with the fitness angle. I wanted a small standalone iwatch that could make voice calls for emergency situations and had GPS.
Would never run with a phone. My run time is my alone time. I have seen several accidents, emergencies, etc., and never felt like I should have called anyone. Just kept running and been like, oh well, sucks to be them.
Dude, only REAL runners run without a cell phone... and then immediately jump on a social chat site to talk about it, in addition to various other dramas.
#4, but only if I'm going to be out for an hour or more.
Unlike most of the isolated, angry sociopaths that post on LetsRun, I have friends, family and co-workers that occasionally need to get in touch, or who might worry about me and want to check in on my location. I've also used it to make calls when coming across others that need help; unlike most LetsRun posters, I believe that helping others can be a *good* thing.
I also carry it on those long runs because I worry that I might get stupid and run too far out to make it back, but that hasn't happened (yet). I'm sure someone will find a way to be a d*ck to me about that last sentence; I can't wait to see how.
I like using RunKeeper to call out my pace and distance also keeps track of all my runs. I carry my phone in my hand. I am a real runner!!!
I think buying a good safety glass will solve the problem, I have one myself. But where can I buy a good protective film for my phone?
It is worth paying attention to the type of protective film. There are transparent films that do not restrict the functionality of the phone and matt films that can reduce glare and reflections on the screen. Some films also have additional features such as UV protection or fingerprint protection.
