Do you guys carry your cell phones on runs? Wanted to poll briefly--which category do you fall into?
1 no cell phone on runs
2 hold phone in hand
3 phone in armband or other holder strapped to body
4 phone in hydration pack on wrist or hip
Love being able to record a run with strava or nike, but I mostly hold my bare cell phone and it gets annoying to do so!
If you can't go for a run w/o your cell phone, you seriously have a big problem. And don't spew that garbage about needing it in an "emergency."
Go over to runnersworld and ask there you tool.

I put mine in an armband - use the Runkeeper app. Also, having it in case of an emergency isn't garbage. Just last week, there was a family emergency that needed my immediate attention. Very happy I had my phone on me.
If you have kids and your husband is at work, I like to carry my phone while running. I hate to miss an emergency if there was one. Call it paranoid or the fact you actually care if your kids or even if your spouse needs to get hold of you.

They need to make an iwatch. Not a stupid bluetooth watch requiring a link to your phone, but a watch with text and voice capabilities on its own!

Unless I'm out of town in unfamiliar surroundings.
When I'm home for the summer I do not carry my phone with me.
However during college I bring it on every run. It would be stupid not to.
I do because I listen to my music on it (don't have an iPod and yes, some runs I like to have music). I will say that I have been very glad I have had it- called 911 twice for 2 hit and runs I saw and was out on a run the day a family member passed away and needed to get to the hospital ASAP.
Why not? That's why the jog-stroller has pockets.

I would guess many of the posters saying "no" are young and have no responsibilities.
I'm 52, have plenty of responsibilities and never have run with a phone, nor will I in the future.
no way i ever carry my phone on a run unless i'm on an unfamiliar trail and think i might need a map. the trails i run aren't crazy dangerous but they are fairly remote and there are plenty of wild animals hanging out and i am a little safety conscious. not "carry a gun" conscious, but "let the rangers know i need help" conscious. in that case it goes in my fanny pack. don't laugh britons. i know what fanny means to you pervs.
90% of the time i run in the city so i am never far from another helpful person.
I'd like to know how you can identify these helpful people. It seems that upwards of 90% of people are murdering rapists if given the chance.

That is a good time to make an exception. Another would be if the wife is in her ninth month of pregnancy, or if you are a doctor. Even the doctor should be able to get away long enough to get in a run, however.
