Short of having a real test done, how do I ballpark my body fat percentage?

Not accurately.
Calipers are good if you can find somebody that's well trained, generally the bio-impedance scales aren't that accurate...
Best way is to just look at yourself in the mirror, or ask somebody else who isn't going to take the piss how you look to them.
I used to have one on the computer that measured like 8 different areas and seemed really accurate.
I just did this one and it said I had 11% fat at 135 lbs so about 15 lbs of total fat. The absolute lowest I could probably get is 128(losing 7 lbs) so if I had 8 lbs of fat the % would be 6%. That seems pretty accurate.

Yep.
Good grief, why does anyone care what their body fat percentage is? If you look less fat, lose some fat. If you want to run faster, run more. Body fat percentage is just a proxy.
