I am currently following the cross country training plan from Daniels' Running Formula for a series of races leading up to Club Nationals (maybe). I am in phase II, which I plan to complete September 28. I did 4 weeks of just base in "phase I," going from 45 mpw to 60. I took a down week back to 45 at the start of phase II which incorporates some speed and hills, and now have built to 65 by the end of this week. My question is whether or not I should continue increasing my mileage. I typically do better with more mileage, but at the same time, I want to race well and know there will eventually be a time when I taper. Here is what I've done so far:
Phase I (Base)
45
50
55
60
Phase II (Prerace Season, includes 1 hill workout and 1 speed workout per week)
43
55
60
65 (by Sunday this week)
I will then take a down week at 50 mpw, then want to go 60, 65, 70. However, Phase III includes 3 workouts (or 2 and 1 race) per week. Should I get up to 70? Should I keep going up after that?
