Okay so I have been training hard and am seeing steady progress. My question for you guys is.. what 5k shape am I in. In early June I did a 400 interval workout with a goal of 1:35 per interval with 400 meter jogging recovery (approx- 2:30-2:45)
In the 6x400 workout I averaged:
1:35
1:34
1:35
1:34
1:33
1:25
This was done after work on an outdoor track at 2 AM. It was probably low 70s and humid. At this time I was in 22:30ish 5k shape
Last night I did pretty close to the same workout. 10x400 meter repeats with a goal pace of 1:30 each and 1:30 walking recovery. I really am pretty clueless if this was a beneficial speed session since I don't do much speed at all.
In this workout I averaged
1:26
1:25
1:27
1:26
1:27
1:28 (maybe 1:40 on this one.. grabbed a swig of water)
1:27
1:28.8 (Legs wouldn't respond.. heavy and dead.. just hung on)
1:24.8 (Surprisingly able to close my workout with my last interval the fastest, really happy I didn't burn out)
Overall this was a fantastic workout that got my heart rate up and my blood flowing. It felt good to give my legs a good workout. I had just the slightest bit of another gear but this was about 95% effort. How do we think I fare in a flat, fast course Saturday night. Weather is calling for 63 degrees and no wind. Sounds like perfect conditions.
Btw, my mile PR is 5:59 if that means anything. Is 5:50 in the cards?
BTW I'm 6'6 225 lbs and have been running for 2 years. I run approx. 20 miles a week. I'm looking to step it up. I want to break 20 minutes so bad.
