So I have been running for about a year but this is my first year running xc in college. I trained consistently over the summer and hit about 50 miles a week without really any pain at all. My pr for the 5k from just doing road races is a 21:30. I have felt like i'm in the best shape of my life and have done really well in all our speed workouts. My coach said with my splits in workouts I should be able to run under 21 at our first meet. First meet came and I did absolutely terrible like my worst race ever. I was really nervous/anxious so I think that was part of it b/c it was to the point of nausea. Usually my first mile is pretty fast(for me) like 6:15 and it feels effortless just cause it's the first mile. This race my first mile was 6:45 and I felt like absolute crap. It only went downhill from there and lets just say I might as well have not even finished. The worst part is I can't figure out why this happened, I did everything i'm supposed to before a race like warm up and stay hydrated and didn't change my routine at all. I'm trying to just forget about it and focus on doing great at our next meet this weekend but I have such a lack of confidence now and feel like something is wrong with me. Did I overtrain?
