I'm training for my first full marathon this fall and so far I've done it with the absence of long runs. I've had a bad track record with injuries (DNS on my last marathon attempt due to stress fracture) from too many long runs so I'm trying to be more conservative this time. Here in lies the question - is it possible to run a good time with no long runs? I'm wondering if I'm heading down the wrong path or not. My goal is 3 hours so it's nothing crazy.
Additional Info:
My current training is around 50-60 mpw and I've been trying to do the cumulative fatigue thing. Speed/uptempo running doesn't weigh on me like the constant longer runs so I generally have 4 faster sessions a week - Fartlek on Tuesday, MP Tempo on Thursday, Track/Speed on Saturday and MP/HMP Tempo on Sunday.
Any thoughts?
