Maybe we can replace those events with a spelling bee.
All judged (not refereed or officiated) events. I'm not saying the athletes aren't incredibly talented. I just believe it's too difficult to differentiate between the best in the world at that level to call one the greatest. Have them put on demenstrations of their sports in a grand event of some sort though, because they are highly incredible.
Would you include boxing in this?
basketball, soccer, tennis.
There is no "ping pong" in the Olympics. "Ping pong" is what you play in your mommy's basement; any of the table tennis players are twice the athlete you are. It's also much more entertaining to watch than most sports, even for someone who doesn't follow it, which is hard to say about most distance races.
Trampoline
equestrian events
Track and Field

they're still playing ping pong, no matter how you look at it.

And you're still running in circles. Dumbass. Just because you can't do a skill sport you had to run.
What if they had paintball?

What do they call the ball used in table tennis?
Oh, it's a PING PONG ball.
How fast can an Olympian ping pong player run a 5K?
Just curious.
Oh wait, no, it's called a TABLE TENNIS BALL. There are top table tennis players who (I don't know this is true for this year's Olympians), while not world class runners, would be able to run in the 14's for 5k (I know this for a FACT). Arrogant Americans.

and the "birdie" in badminton is called a shuttlecock
Your on a running board arguing that ping pong is bettter than track and field. Why would a table tennis player go on letsrun.com? I doubt any ping pong players run 14's in the 5k, maybe 17's not 14's.
I've got a shuttle cock.
brilliant above.
I know one personally who does. Not an Olympian, but many incorporate some cardio training. And 4-6 hours of hitting around a table per day doesn't hurt. And for the person who mentioned "soccer," there have been many footballers who have run under 4:00 for 1500m without any specific training.
From an interview:
Wei Xiao: First of all, stamina is a major factor. Every player should do a lot of physical conditioning such as jump rope, aerobic exercises, and light weight training. Also, practice sessions should be very efficient. Practice sessions should not be "fool-around sessions."
