I agree and hopefully the right people are reading this thread and realize that distance running is in the abyss right now. I used to pay a few bucks to watch Diamond League meets online, now I wouldn't pay a penny to watch your standard 13:07/27:20 race. For every one fan that likes a slow race with a fast final lap, there are 20 people that like a fast race from start to finish.

What about the 2003 WC 5000m? Sub 13 + fast 800...one of the great races of all timeeeeee!

Kenenisa Bekele, the greatest 5000 meter runner to ever walk the planet, ensured that the pace was fast in that race. He also wound up third. That's two reasons why you don't see that sort of race much.
Aside from the sit and kick races, another observation I've made this summer is the absence of the Kenyan dominance. Kenya used to absolutely stack the European circuit, but not now. What's up with that?

See the other thread started by SMLPNBMF or whatever his name is. In summary, they've all moved to the roads.

But didn't he double at that meet? Perhaps that's why he lost.
13:0X is actually still pretty quick.
One reason you are seeing the pack race and a big kick is because the depth is better now.
Gab was the first man under 13 in many years. He could go out on his own and not have company.
Now if you go out and attack the pace, four or five guys can stick to your back. The runners are guarding their position and keeping reserves.
I think a time bonus for sub 13 and a bonus for every second under that is needed for incentive.
Pay for time and not place and you will see things change.
You'll still see great races because their instinct will always be to win.

Gab didn't get really fast until Targat and Koman were running against him.
Ask yourself if you are using another runner as a requirement to do the exercise on your own. If so, why can't you be the runner who is able to succeed without someone running next to him?
El G finished ahead of him and was doubling too.

10k is more fatiguing than a 1500m in some opinions

Do three 1500s and 3 less days to recover make any difference in your opinion?

3 1500s still aren't even half the distance of a 10k
LET'S REVOLT!
HERE WE GO, REVOLTING: RAWR!
The fear of running a fast pace all the way having a greater chance of losing is not a rational one.
The fitter the runner, the greater the chance is if winning by running a fast pace all the way, and by not waiting for a last minute kick.
