The boys in Birmingham today are first rate. If they thought the could bury Farah with a fast pace they would have pressed. They clearly thought a fast close was to their advantage.
Thought.

Makes me think Kenyan selectors should forget trials for the 10,000. Just select the three guys with the fastest times in 2012-2013, and tell them they'll never go to another Championships unless they run sub-26:50 in Moscow.
That'll do it, except the Kenyans aren't even in the mix right now, their 10000 National Champs the other day was won by Geoffrey Mutai (the marathon guy) over Bett who was the world leader with 26,51 last year. So their fastest guy and fastest kicker right now can't even take down one of their fastest marathoners when he's coming down to the 10 do some speedwork, presumably for training. Male Kenya is all about 800, 1500, Hurdles and the Marathon right now, no visible contenders in between.
I'm surprise no one has mentioned that the best way to potentially beat Mo is through surges. I think he will be fine with a long wind up. The guy can handle anything you throw at him the last mile. He just ran 2:23 or whatever for the last 1k. You think an additional 600 meters is going to kill him?
I think the best way to get him is to throw in multiple surges to get junk in his legs. a 58-9 second lap followed by a 34 second 200 followed by a 28 second 200 and so on and so forth. If he hasn't practiced it, this could throw him off and introduce some junkj in his legs.
Seems to me like the only chance anyone has against Mo.
On a completely unrelated note, does anyone know why Rupp isn't racing? Mo tends to race a great deal more than Galen and was wondering why that is. Typically training partners race together as well as train together, otherwise they're off schedule. Is Rupp healthy? Tired from USATFs? Is Mo done know and headed back to train more with Ritz and Rupp?
I'd guess Rupp is resting from USA's. The times of his races were slow, but it was still hot out and the last mile of the 5k probably took a bit out of him. Hopefully Rupp is racing in Monaco. It sounds like Mo is going to race the 1500 or 5000 there.
Who can say if Farah will peak correctly in Moscow? He can run 50.89 last week and 1:51 this week, which is great closing speed now. He has to maintain that great closing speed for 5-6 weeks.
Farah can be beaten in a sprint by someone who is at peak fitness - Jeilan in Daegu.
Haile ran his last 600 in 1.23 in 1995 Zurich meet (finished in 12.50), crushing Kiptanui in the process.
So you are wrong. Not to mention Bekele. He ran a 53 in the process of running 12.57(last 2000 in 4.57) from the front. Imagine the damage he would have made on Farah on the last lap.
Farah is the best right now but he is beatable. The world has seen better runners.
How to beat him in the 10:
Sacrifice 2 ethiopians, make them go for it while Farah is lurking in the back. Let him chase. Eventually he and the Kenyans will catch them, but does he still have a 52-53 last lap in him?

What are you talking? 12:44,39 with last 600m in around 1:30 where his times in Zürich. You mean Berlin? 1:23? Really?

Good question.
There's a whole thread on it over here:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=5263365("DUCK ALERT: Rupp is DUCKING the Diamond League while his rivals (even Farah) are racing it"
I suspect that racing at home is important for Mo's image, sponsorship, fans, etc. Good for the sport! No need for Rupp to make the trip for those reasons (although RACING could seem like a good reason, too.)

It's true. So much of the potential Kenyan 5000-10,000 talent has been hoovered up by the marathon.
The way things are today, there are probably several guys with 26:40 talent who will never run a 10,000 on the track.
And why would they? They can make thousands for a 2:05 or 2:06 marathon. Meanwhile, what are European meet organizers paying a 26:40 Kenyan?

I hope he's not that fragile. So he ran a fast mile off of a total jog for 3400. It was still, what, 10s off from his mile ability? I hope an Olympic medallist in the 10,000 can handle this.
And the 10,000 was literally a six-mile tempo with sprint at the end.

Wow, you think Rupp can run a 3:46 mile? He must be in the wrong event.

^this. Look where Farah is during the Olympics 10k:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9-gOCOu_KGU#t=1432sSurely, someone could beat him in a 3k with a 10-15m meter head start....especially if a move is made at the start of a bend with Farah boxed in somewhat.
