I had a great spring season going, but with a couple weeks left to train before my focus race, about 4 weeks ago, my hip started to have some moderate to severe pain in my right hip on the outside to back area. I skipped my focus race and finally saw a PT 2 days ago. She determined that my hip pain is coming from the fact that my right leg crosses past the midline to the left, which puts a lot of pressure on the outside of my hip. This causes my upper body to go out of plane, which then makes the problem worse, as it puts even more pressure on the hip. I've been essentially out for 3 weeks now, although I feel that the few runs I've tried (pretty darn short) more recently have hurt less. The PT thinks that if I just do some exercises that will strengthen my trunk in a very specific way, it will control my hips better, which will prevent the cross-over and eliminate the source of pain. Does this seem reasonable? Has anyone else had this sort of issue before? Anything else I should be doing?
