My 800 PR is 2:05 and my 5K PR is 18:30 btw.
I have little 800 experience, but am more a sprint type, especially as I've not come close to proper shape since I got back to running.
My best shape, I was doing 200's with the 2:01 guys, sprints with the sub-2's and longer stuff with the 2:07's. So I suppose in a perfect race in perfect shape (I sukk at racing tho) I'd do 2:05.
I did run 18:00's twice for the 5k though. First one was when I had just picked up running and weight loss seriously, and 2 years later when heavier and undertrained, I did it again. I've started a race with 17'40 plan, but couldn't stick it.
Seems your 5k really needs work if it's slower than mine. 2'15 800-specialist girls run that 18'30. You should see me, I ran that recent 18-flat standing 6'4" tall at 87kg. I do my 1000's with the girls, as there are no guys this slow at endurance.
Just work the 5k pace, or become a 200-400 sprinter. I'm built mostly for the 200m I'd say, as I'm sluggish with high top speed but low pain threshold.
Or do you skip all kinds of endurance completely in your training?
