Did more kids break 9:00 at Arcadia than in all of the '90s?

Interesting that the all time best marks-for-place 1-30 come from only 4 races. It really shows the value of being pulled along in the pack in a fast race that goes out at the correct pace.

What it really shows is a complete lack of effort in doing any research.

why were the 90s so bad? Whats different now other than we have the internet?

It was made pretty clear earlier - kids are doing a lot more quality mileage (1.5-2x on average), training overall is a more sophisticated. I would agree the soccer phenomenon (no, I'm not saying soccer is no longer popular) seems to have played out and fewer kids are opting for that choice.

Wow. I'm the idiot. I didn't read close enough that those are the best time for the given place - measure of the depth of those races. I was thinking it was a horribly bad list of the top 30 times for 3200m/Two miles. My bad.

Caleb Kalappa competed in a wheelchair. I think it'd be fair to say he doesn't belong on this list although that still is pretty impressive.

This still isn't a very good list, since Milesplit has only been around for a few years and is missing a lot of history. Jeff Nelson, Steve Prefontaine, Craig Virgin, John Trautmann, etc., are missing from this list.

Agreed, that list sucks. None of the greats from the 60s/70s/early 80s are on there.

I certainly made a bonehead error to begin with. But the second list never tried to be more than what it was declared to be - the best list from milesplit.

Here is the deal. If you look at the results the kids breaking nine minutes for 3200 they are coming form all over the USA. In the old day's only a few runners from out of state would be running the 3200. It's a glorified time trial now!
