I've told this story almost very time one of these threads pops up. Last year I dusted off the old Jasaris to run in a 5000. 600m into the race the spike plates were flapping around as the glue lost its adhesiveness. I stopped at that 600m mark because the spikes had literally torn off of the shoes. Both spikes are ruined until I find a way to readhere the plates.
I actually jumped back into the race shoeless, but after another 600m I realized I was not Joe Jackson reincarnate and stopped again. I laced up my trainers and jumped back in the race yet again, now a lap behind the field, eventually recatching everyone but the leader. Although my overall time of around 17:30 wasn't particularly fast, I like to claim it's the world record for the rarely, and apparently spontaniously, contested "5k footwear medley."
Those are my all-time favoite spikes and I have a second unused pair, but I will never race in them again after that disaster.
