When you're ranked number one, are you atop the rankings or are you at the bottom because you have the lowest number? When they display the results, do they start with the one and go down the list to the last finisher or do they start with the highest place finisher and go to the lowest?
2005, Oregon did not qualify as a team. They had an individual runner, Pat Werhane, who finished 119 overall.
Rupp was injured during that XC season and he didn't participate. I assume that he would have done better than 40 th. However that 2005 team had no depth. Just a couple years later they won the whole thing. I guess that it doesn't take a long time to turn around an entire program.
