Probably entered the marathon but opted for the half. Happens. Especially common with half marathons are full but there are still entries in the marathon at the same event. People just enter the marathon to get on the course, only intending to do the half. Poof! 2:16 marathoner. The guy is probably shocked the idiot sports writer didn't figure this out.

This is a big day for me. Its the first time I've been referred to as a troll. I've finally made the big time as a Letsrun messageboard poster.
you'll know you've made it when attention brojos calls for your permanent deletion.
There he is, your latest 2:16 {half)marathoner! via what appears to be his FB page.

Seems like a happy enough guy...I suppose I'd be that happy if I just knocked off a 2:16 marathon off of 15 miles per week.
BTW, the age 52 mens marathon record is 2:19:xx by a Swede in Stockholm.
Single age marathon records.

I meant age 49.
Talked with a friend and he got caught in traffic and started way late. Maybe slower runners who caught bad traffic just opted to do the half?
As far as the guy saying the race doesn't give back to the locals, they do offer some good money for first maryland finishers two or three deep. I will agree though that generally it does suck when foreigners equals prize money slots.
Hmm.... Is this a Boston qualifying course?
Why would you call out this guy AND show his pic for a timing error, something that was not his fault? Harsh and unnecessary.
Ah, It was probably the racers fault to be honest. He probably signed up for the marathon, and switched race morning to the half-marathon...
I saw someone mention that he probably went over the marathon mat... Well, that really doesn't matter. All the mats have wires hooked up to the same system and computers. Marathoners can go over the "half-marathon" mats, and vice versa without any effect into the results.
This is a widely known big problem to professional race timers. The general race population is quite incompetent when it comes to understanding the possible problems they cause by changing what race they are in, how old they are (and yes, this does happen. A 48 year old guy didn't want to be in the "masters" race in a 10k here, he ended up 2nd overall with a "32" in his age. Messed up all the awards).
2:16 from a 49 year old here would be one of the greatest age-group performances of all time. This course is not fast by any stretch of the imagination. A 49 year old running 1 minute off Max King's time would be insane.

give them the prize money, don't speak English and leave.
The race directors don't speak English? That's pretty weak. Especially when giving prize money.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
