Ritz finished in 60 secs, 2:00, 3:01, 4:06. Far from a medal-worthy finish. It worked in that time-trial, because the others ahead were rigging :64's trying to **time-trial** with Bekele.

Very Good showing for Dathan Ritzenhein 2:07:47! Does this change anyone mind that he should focus solely on the track?
Hopefully he can stay healthy and focus on the 10000m for World Outdoors and comeback next year in Chicago and lower his marathon personal best even more!
Yes because he's clearly a far better 5000m runner.
Today was a very big step in the right direction. It's all about staying healthy now. If he does, I peg him as a 2:06 guy pretty soon.
I think he should stay on the track. He still died at the end of the race and I think this shows that he is in shape to run a big pr in the 10000. I want to see a sub 27 from Ritz.

I agree in part but Dathan have finished 6th in World Outdoors without being consistently healthy; however, he could make some good money in the marathon in the future.
If Dathan Ritzenhein stayed healthy the rest of his career which is possible but not likely, I think he could run career bests of:
1500m.......3:34.14
5000m.......12:48.7
10000m......26:39.5
Marathon....2:05:14
which in my opinion the 5000m/10000m is still his best distances
He didn't die. From 35k to 40k he ran 15:34, which is right at 5:00 per mile. The last 2.195 he ran 6:58, which, if my calculations are correct, is also at about 5:00 flat. He slowed down, but that is not dying.

12:48 and 26:39 aren't happening. 2:05:14, maybe.
Yes 12:48 and 26:39 are possible if he can remain healthy for few years consectatively- I have no doubt!
Ritzenhein is still due for a big career breakthru because DESPITE his world class time it hasn't happen yet.
Call me crazy right now but if he stays healthy for more then 1 or 2 years in a row pull this thread up in years from now!
The 10000m is his best race and I think he could eventually compete for Olympic and World Championships titles just like Mo Fareh!
So should he focus on 5000m/10000m or marathon now?
This is true. He did slow as he was on 2:06:52 pace till I believe 35k, but he surely did not die as he actually gained a place or two.
I'm also a huge believer in Ritz' potential- part physical & part toughness.
Ritz would've finished top 5-7 @ the London games 26.2, if he was healthy a little longer going into the trials. He finished 9th in '08 & has improved more than the world has since. And Olympic Marathoning is best for his attributes.
ritz indeed was closing near the end on a B+ game bekele.
as ritz was turning on his not so big turbo charger, bekele turned on his and ritz only got a sniff.
turbo data.
flat out ritz can go 54 and bekele 49.
at the end of the day, a runner needs to be able to do more than just one thing,
learn to sprint young man. it is an essential part of your craft.
