Sprintgeezer thanks for the feedback. I hadnt considered the 60m before. Sounds like a good first step to see where I am at.
Some cautionary stuff about simply concentrating on 60m...
Now, by all means DO go into the weight room and do squats and power cleans (get a trainer to teach technique if you don't know) to get more explosive out of the blocks. But the thing is, a lot of people start sprinting, do weights, learn block technique, do accels of 20-50m for a few weeks, get some hand timed 30m starts a little over 4.0....and have a VERY wrong idea of how easy it is to get fast in 100m.
The truth is, the "race" starts at 40 meters. You have to do a lot of conditioning stuff just to be able to train max velocity...and a lot more conditioning stuff to maintain that max velocity for the majority of the race AFTER you run out of acceleration. It does no good for a coach to tell someone to run flying 30s by accelerating to 40m then maintain that velocity for 30m....if you do NOT have the conditioning to accelerate to 40m (and you won't when you start).
You have to be very careful trying to do the training of an elite athlete when you are not an elite athlete (and I'm telling you to not try to copy this, but use it as a model). This is from Walter Dix' coach before he went with John Smith, and should give you some idea of how to train:
