That was the last race his freshman year. The original quote stated it was his first race his freshman year.
Idiot.
I'm quite sure he meant to illustrate that solinksy would have then improved over 2 and a half minutes from first race to last race. this is unlikely, especially since there have been numerous newspaper articles about how tough solinksy's dad was...riding behind him on a bike while he ran, 50-60 miles a week when he was as young as a middle schooler
take a chill pill flo-da gurl. idiot
Just because Rupp ran an early 19 in his career doesn't mean little 14 year old sub 20 Charles will someday break 13 in the 5k.
Talent, desire and hardwork are all intertwined, just because you work hard doesn't mean you'll be world class without talent.

Why do you keep posting this nonsense as if it's relevant in any way to the thread?
It's not.
Rupp found his closing speed late, just like Armstrong.
is always the olympics, usatf or ncaa championships?

He got out kicked in the last 300m like always.
Are people considering that it takes time to figure out how to race? Maybe he was capable of about 16:30-17:00 that first day, but had no idea how to pace himself.
I went from 17:33 on a flat road course to 16:31 on a rather hilly xc course in two weeks. 1:02 PR. Did I improve that much in that short of a span? Of course not, I just ran harder in the latter race because I was pushed and started to understand how a race should feel.
I Ran high school XC in the same conference as Rupp. He was a freshman when I was a senior.
He ran one XC race late in the fall of his freshman year. He played soccer, but showed up in the results of a late season dual meet, running 16:42 (or close to that) on a pretty average XC course. He did not run again that season, and then came out for track in the spring, and ran 4:21 and 9:08.
I remember seeing the 16:42 in the results, and since it was faster than my PR, thinking "who the hell is this kid?"
Who are you?
I was a senior at David Douglas when Rupp was a freshman. Probably ran against you.
It does contribute, to trying to prevent you from misleading kids into believing because they have a similar 5k time first starting out as someone like Rupp that they have world class talent.
You're setting them up for a monumental let-up, I've seen more runners discourage other people from running specifically because of their own crushed dreams because of people like you.
I remember reading an interview with Rupp where he said his first race was a potato sack race when he was 8. I think he said he fell and hit his face but that he loved the feeling of racing from that.
I remember his last high school race, the state 1500. Kenyon Neuman (may have the spelling wrong) stayed with him through 1100 - maybe about 2:50. And that last 400 is one of the most painful ones I have ever witnessed.

This has absolutely nothing to do with kids and everything to do with the progression of Galen Rupp and other elites.
That I have to explain that to you speaks volume about your lack of critical thinking and your piss-poor negative attitude.
You're not doing anyone any favors and you're certainly not adding to the thread in any sort of meaningful way. You can continue showcasing your jacka$$ery of course, but maybe you'd find more enjoyment in kicking a kitten or something.

That was the only 800m race he ran all year. It was in a dual meet and he won by 8 seconds. He also won the 3k that meet pacing some teammates with a 9:38. In Oregon the meet schedule goes 800m, 200m, 300h, 3k. He also wasn't known for going all out in small meets. It's safe to say he could go faster than 1:59.7.
Also, I suppose non of these critics has ever run a slow time in a windy april track meet. Sheesh...
I ran against him in June after his sophomore year at junior nats in the 5k. He was already a stud at that point. If I remember correctly, he finished 2nd in the low 1430s. I can remember him running on my shoulder for a couple of laps and thinking "wow, this kid is def legit". Pretty surreal watching him the last decade and all of the great things he went on to do.
He did junior olympics in middle school, unfortunately cannot find any results because google has gone to shit
Is google back yet? Hope it lit a match.
