Anyone have any ideas?
Did he come out of the gate burning up the track (or xc course) and taking names?
Any ideas of how fast he ran in his first race? What about his first season?

Would be freshman track season
Dunno exactly how it went but he was pretty good.
By the end come summer, he had Jesse Fayant try and pace him to a 9 min 3k at the UO track camp.
Then by soph xc he was a force, finished 6th in a tough year of osaa 4a while rockin the head band.
Rest is history
I don't know Rupp but I remember Solinsky saying his first cross race in high school (I think 9th grade) was somewhere in the 19s for 5k
Cool info from both. Thanks!
Any more?
Would love to hear more about elitess progression. If they just rocked it out from the beginning or if they started out a bit more "normal" and really let their talent develop.
Jeremy Wariner started track as a HS sophomore. His first race was a 51.x in the 400m, I presume outdoors since he's from Texas. Perhaps a relay leg, I don't know.

He got out kicked in the last 300m like always.
I do know his progression was something like this
Freshman: no XC played soccer instead, did track, was attempting 9:00 3K in his first season, but not fully committed to running yet.
Sophomore: First year committing to running. Get's 6th at State XC, and runs 8:32 3K in track, and later a 9:00 3200.
Junior: Wins state XC, 6th at Nationals, runs 3:53 1500, 8:10 3K, 14:20 5K
Senior: Wins State XC, 2nd at Nationals, runs 8:03 3K, 4:01 mile, 13:37 5K, 29:09 10K.

His SR year 400 and 800 times were quite slow. Actually too slow. How does a 4:01 miler only run a 1:59 800? Perhaps he was injured in March and just getting into shape during those April races?

You are sarcastic trash. Total lack of humor.
Baby Nationals?
24 sec improvement for 1500m
47 sec improvement for 3000m
special supplements after 9th grade?

That isn't obscene on any level, let alone discussing someone who wasn't training that happened to have world class talent.

If he wasn't running world class times, the he didn't have world class talent at the time. Talent is a performance level. But I do agree that those improvements aren't that crazy.
plus you should expect big improvements b/w 9th and 10th grades due physical maturing. After that, the improvements tend to be more modest each year.

And if by 6th you mean DNF, you would be correct.

Many Rupp supporters claim he is still a young kid. He hasn't grown up yet, just like Peter Pan.

And we're still waiting for message board rat-azzholes like you to grow up...
Or just the usual obsession with endurance amongst people who have a certain ability to do distance. He has less basic speed as a youngster as indicated by his relatively slow 800 vs 3000m times as a 14yo. Even Lydiard emphasised training for pure speed (ie short sprint repetitions like 10x30-40m. So-called 'speed work' like various forms of repetition sessions, as done by distance runners, is not speed work at all. It is just another form of endurance training.

Poor little wakey wanker. Nothing to say about your hero. So ready to accuse every no American who runs fast as a doper. Rupp is pure as the driven show. Next time, when you talk about your hero, Rupp, keep your pants on.
