Geoghegan sounds pretty confident: "'We’ll definitely do better at Heps,' Geoghegan said. 'We’ll for sure be ahead of Harvard and should be competing with Princeton and Columbia. We think we can make something happen at Heps.'" Maybe Bleday's injury isn't as bad as the article makes it sound (up to a month out).
It's a very tough injury to put a time on. He could be back running within the week, or it could take a month to heal. Here's hoping to the former and that Dartmouth will be back full strength at Heps. Their depth is impressive and if they can get their top guys firing on all cylinders, they might be able to step it up to another level.
Thanks for the link, C/M. The Dartmouth kids certainly sound optimistic. The lack of detail about AD'A's injury is a little chilling, I'd say. And if Columbia's Neer is really out for the season, as people have been saying, the Heps race will have a completely different complexion.
I know that the Cornell men had a real dogpile at Wisconsin--five guys went down?--and I just hope they didn't pick up injuries, as well.
I had heard that Neer got an overtraining injury, but that is just rumor.
As for Cornell, from what I read on twitter after the race, the guys just "shook it off" and it sounds like no one got injured. I think it was just more of a setback than anything major, particularly with how crowded the races were on Friday. Dan Lowry (Brown alum doing his 5th year at Michigan) was interviewed by Flotrack on Friday and he expressed on how crowded it was during the race. He managed to finish 11th overall. Interview here:
With little over a week until HEPS XC Championships, it is time to make predictions. Here goes:
Princeton
Columbia
Dartmouth
Harvard
Cornell

Yes, word from their coaches is that, aside from some minor pride injuries, the Big Red came out of the Wisconsin scrum unhurt.
Though the Cornell women (rightly) are getting all the attention this year, I find the men's season under their new coach intriguing. They've shown some flashes of real ability, certainly at a higher level than last year. We'll see what happens at Heps, but I think teams would make a real mistake by writing off the "no-names" Big Red.
The real question, I'd say, is whether the new coach has been hitting the recruiting trail. Their last "big" distance class are now seniors, and a dearth of distance points has cost Cornell a couple of Heps t&f championships recently.

Hard to quibble with those--except your 1 and 2! A bold prediction there, but on their home course?--you could be right about Princeton.
After they came (unexpectedly) so close last year, I'm thinking Columbia will pull it off this time. And I see at least three teams in *close* contention for the last podium spot.
In any case, FF, props to you for actually making a prediction, rather than (like me) just criticizing others'.
Let there be no doubt, Princeton will win in DOMINATING fashion! Look for the Tigers to rebound well from Wisco. The Tigers have owned the Ivy league - this will not change any time soon!
Princeton 20's
Columbia 50's
Dartmouth
Harvard
Cornell
Yale
Brown

WOW! This young lady is insanely impressive in all that she has accomplished. She will be competing with people 6 years older than her this year! I think Saretsky made an excellent choice because he will be able to coach an athlete who has a lot of room to grow. She has posted some good times for being that young.

Do you mean the heisman girl?
Yea I mean she would only be going into her junior year of high school. Those are good times if you look at it as she just completed sophomore year. According to times from last weekend she is right on the border of Harvard varsity, out pacing their 7th girl from Wisco.

I don't know that Bri's time at Wisconsin was really representative--she's been H's #1 at least once this year, and I just really, really hope she's not hurt--and in any case the Ivy teams are allowed to run twelve people at Heps (unless it changed since last year), so the rookie should be good to go.
Couple of quick things:
1) Pay attention to your screen names. Answering your own posts is a noble tradition around here, but you don't want to be *too* obvious.
2) The woman is 17 now, and being a year younger (which is all we're really talking about) often doesn't matter as much (athletically) with females, though it certainly appears that she's got plenty of room for growth--should be fun watching her progress through her Harvard career.
3) There are plenty of young kids at the Ivies. I was 17 until the *end* of my sophomore year, and had several younger classmates--not unusual. (Now, *maturity* was a separate question, but Pasadyn seems okay in that regard.)
Looking forward to Heps! Early forecast for next week (through Friday) at Princeton is for moderate temps and a lot of sun, so as long as we don't get a repeat of last year's Saturday Surprise weather, it should be a great spectator's meet.

Right... except it already has changed. Did you look at the wisco reults? Iwould put Columbia in the 20s.... not Princeton.
A quiet weekend for the Ivy teams. Cornell had its annual Reif Memorial:

In the past the Cornell men's coaches have decided their last couple of Heps entrants based on the Reif results, and it would appear that the same is true this year (looks like their top ten or so were already set, and didn't run this race). Rather atypically, it seems that one or two of their women's Heps entries may have also been settled at this meet.
Brown was scheduled for its Rothenburg meet, but I haven't seen any results for that yet.
Kinsley Ojukwu - 26:32. Not bad for a guy who runs 10.57 for the 100!

Yes, it's okay--decent general aerobic fitness for a pure sprinter/TJer--but you still might like to see the man break 25:00 for a 5,000m race...
[That said, it's *not* a fast course, and the conditions yesterday (footing soft and wet) made it even slower.]
Anyway, this coming year is definitely going to be KO's--he has great talent, great attitude, and great coaching!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
