Now there is no doubt in my mind, if Rupp runs the perfect race, with that kind of finishing speed, not only could he medal in the 5k or 10k, he could actually win.

he has improved, but do you really think that he could beat Farah and Bekele. If Bekele gets anywhere close to where he was in his prime, Farah and Rupp are done. If Bekele doesn't, then Mo still beats Rupp.
Well, as was said in Pulp Fiction, lets not start sucking each others d!cks quite yet. The Olympic final will almost certainly run faster than that. Or if not, conditions will be hot and muggy. Realistically I still see Rupp medaling in the way Ian Stewart stole Bronze from Prefontaine in the 72 Olympics.

The only thing I can think of in reply to that is "Do you really think that Lagat could beat Farah and Bekele?" in which case I would answer, "Yes, while not probable, I think it's completely reasonable to suspect that Bernard Lagat could beat Farah and Bekele."
Personally, I don't think Rupp is there yet (able to beat Farah or Bekele in the 10k), but this was a huge step in the right direction and a lot can happen in a month. Medal threat for sure.

Yep. Sadly I agree, I think Rupp has another year or two of progression and then we might see him regularly beating the Africans.
Oh and how is bekele simply going to turn back time? DIDNT THINK SO DONKEY
Rupp for double gold. You heard it here first!
Conditions in London are going to be "hot and muggy?" Are you serious?
Conditions in London will be very similar to Eugene, if not even more rainy. Yes, maybe the olympic final will end up being a faster time, but I don't see that as an issue. The first lap of this race was 72 seconds, if it was a 65, it would have been 13:15 as the winning time, which isn't too far off. The 04 and '11 wc finals were won in similar times. Plus, beating Lagat, even at his age, shows you how far Rupp has come. A while back Rupp couldn't even break 4 for the mile. Now he can just about do it after running 2 miles and with a 52 second last lap. He responds to every move and he asserts himself when it matters. I honestly feel like he has a chance to win one of those races.
Read my post. I didn't say it is going to be. I said they could be. And if the winning time is 3:22 at the Olympics it will be. The point is, in one way or another Rupp will be under a lot more duress entering the final lap in an Olympic 5000M race.

What duress do you mean? Mo, his training partner? Bekele, whom Rupp has beaten this year, or Lagat, whom Rupp also just beat. I understand he isn't the favorite but im not sure I get your point.
link to the race?
Maybe I'm just being too optimistic, but I tend to agree with the OP. Rupp may not medal but it would not surprise me one bit if he did. I also think there is a very small yet real chance that he could win a gold. I mean, he regularly runs with Farah and is able to hold his own, he recently beat Bekele, and he just took down Lagat. Now, there will also be a couple of Kenyans to contend with, but it is not at all unrealistic to think that he could beat all but 2 of those other contenders with a very good race. In fact, if the stars align just right on that day, he could win.
*Note to all the idiots/trolls: No I do not think Rupp will win and there is a pretty good chance he doesn't medal. With that being said, nothing is impossible at this point.
Yeee :)
Good call that far ahead of this race. When he out-kicked Lagat in the trials I thought he could place, in the games, if he was close with 600 to the finish.
wooooooooooooooooo white people are going bananas over a silver

"going bananas..."
HAH! Accidental racist joke!
It was a good prediction, but I could have been wrong just as well.
Don't you have anything better to do, like Nigerian E-mail scams, Mr. Smalls?
I felt Rupp could win after the 5k at the trials. for whatever reason most people on here disagreed and even felt he would be lucky to medal, while also thinking bekele senior would be a threat, despite him having a bad season. congratulations to galen! i am super pumped to see him do so well. on to the 5k!
Waht about yourself you dont have anything better to do acting like a kid who just recieved a lolipop because of a silver?
