Isn't he trying to attract sponsorship? How did your strategy work out for Tiger Woods?
This is totally off topic, but I have thought for years that the first step track and field could do to rebuild a fan base would be to have a 100m match race at halftime of the Superbowl. T&F only gets a large audience once every 4 years. Using an annual event like the Superbowl to attach a large fan base to the top names keeps Usain Bolt/Tyson Gay's name in the average sport fan's head. Maybe they'll choose to turn on a track meet once in a while.
If successful, add a mile race to the halftime show. There are enough fans tuned in that the sponsors should be able to put together a large prize purse and pay the athletes well. It doesn't matter if the times are fast since the average viewing idiot will think a 3:52 was "almost a world record".
No need for a full track meet, just a couple of events at halftime to raise public awareness.
What do you think is more likely to draw fans, my idea, or a guy dating Paris Hilton for a week?
