off corse he is.
He must be in crap shape if he needs to play mind games with the other competitors!

Well that's just fine.

That reply was a little rough.
Interesting because we would all think he is a better 10K guy than 5K guy and it was only about 2-3 weeks ago now that he ran that 27:50 10K or whatever so he is either really bullshitting everyone or rapidly improved the last few weeks. My money would say he is in more like 13:10-15 shape

I love conspiracy theorists! If he says nothing, the question becomes: "What's he hiding? Why's he playing mind games by staying silent?" If he says anything else, he's either accused of talking smack, or under-estimating his fitness; i.e., "playing mind games."
All that being said, aren't mind games and talking smack part of the fun?
So by saying this he's insinuating that he's faster than Rupp right now? Fat chance. I would say Bekele is in 12:56 or under shape now, since he was at 13:00 a week or so ago and finally got his track training underway... However there is a world of difference between Bekele's ability to get in shape and Ritz's . Ritz is very talented as a runner but unfortunately he is quite fragile, which is why he'll never be a good marathoner. He'll get 3rd in the 10K to Rupp and Derrick and get 5th or so in the 5K behind Lagat, Rupp, Lomong, and someone else.

(a) We don't know to what extent he tapered for that race; and (b) the conditions were unexpectedly hot and humid. I think it's safe to say the conditions at Hengelo cost him 20 seconds, which is about what he hoped to accomplish. Nothing more.
12:56 is aweful quick for a 10k...
thats cool I say I'm back in 13:10 shape. See you at the trials!

No. He's saying he's in comparable shape to where he was in '09 when he ran 12:56.
I'm not a predictor of things generally, but there's no way in hell that Derrick, or any other collegiate runner for that matter--Levins included--is going to be anywhere near beating Ritz right now. It's laughable to suggest otherwise.
The closer we get to the Trials, the more I think it's a shame that Solinsky won't be there. That being said, the 5,000 is still gonna be nuts, and I'm wondering how the 10,000 will go down as well, with Ritz needing an A standard.

He ran that a month ago.

I don't
I anticipate Rupp and Riz will work together to run a sub 27:30. It should be easy for rupp and that pace should drop everyone else.
I hope Derrick pulls off a good one, but running a fast 10k after a college season will be rough.

Running faster than he has to just doesn't work into Rupp's plan. I know he'd love to help Ritz, but why risk it? I think Ritz is gonna have to channel Pre to some degree and just bust it alone. He can't count on Rupp doing anything to help.
I agree with this. Ritz is going to have to go at it alone, and can't expect to get any help from Rupp. The only help he MAY get, is from one of the other guys who needs an A as well.
I don't see why Rupp wouldn't help a teammate. Even Prefontaine shared the pace with Shorter in an American record 3 mile in 1974. I see no problem for either Rupp or Ritz to run 27:20 if they had to.
The problem with Rupp pushing the pace is that the 5000 is just a couple of days later, and Rupp wants to make the team in both events.
