Considering a transfer to West-Lafayette this fall, any input from Letsrun? Pros, cons? Thanks.

No coach = Con
Despite looking for a new head Coach. Great distance Coaching staff in place right now. Little better recruiting on the men's then women's side but two young Coaches with great passion. Watch out for Purdue in the years to come.
A new coach will bring in a new staff.
Current distance coach will be gone.
Are you talking strictly running or pros/cons for the whole Purdue experience?
I would think having no coach at a Big Ren program would be a poor experience. They are already at the bottom of the conference; a change in coaching staff, philosophy, team culture, recruiting, et al will take years to make it a positive experience.
Would not have advised anyone to come here under the old coaching regime, and can't really advise anyone to until a new one is in place. The Athletic Department has made commitments recently to winning in some olympic sports, but thus far no one gives a damn about XC/track. That could change though.
I really enjoy the school in general. Very compact for a school of 40k people, can walk anywhere in <15min. Typical for a lot of schools in the Big Ten where you can get the big campus and small town feel at the same time.
I wouldn't recommend it. Purdue has really never been a good distance program even in non-Jack Warner eras. Purdue placed 8th at the Big 10 meet last season and that is probably going to be the highest placing they'll see in a while since they will be graduating most of their top 5.
Obviously if they bring in some kenyans, good transfers, and/or get a really good recruiting class my assessment could be totally wrong.

What are you talking about? All the experienced, knowledgeable coaching staff left and Warner replaced them with inexperienced, young people he can control and underpay. He wanted to be in control of everything and micromanage the team and staff. Napoleon complex. You can see how that worked out.
Outside of the cross country and T&F teams, Purdue is a great school. The academics are pretty strong, the campus is nice, and West Lafayette is a good college town. While I didn't go to Purdue, I've had many friends and family who have, and they all loved their experiences there.
Hell of a strong conference... depth everywhere
Went to purdue and ran on the Men's team, graduated within past few years, I ran rather well, even liked my man Jack. Liked the old distance coach, love the new one.
Good recruits coming in on both men and women's side. 2 sub 1:53 800's, 2 sub 9:06 3200's... that I know of. I'm sure there's a few more. Heard a transfer from AZ state also on the way.
Locker rooms, weight lifting facilities, and training rooms are all brand new and top notch.
Cool town, pretty compact campus, strong academics.

Really hope to see the team back in the top half of the Big Ten in the coming years, we did it a few times while I was there..
Also..
basically impossible to get Kenyans into purdue.. despite school's love for international diversity

Why is that?
Good college town? West Lafayette has nothing on Bloomington. Absolutely nothing.
If you are an engineering or actuarial sciences major, good choice. Otherwise, why would you want to spend the best years of your life in West Lafayette, dealing with the weather and the lack of much else besides Greek life? They do have good basketball.
Where are you transferring from and why? I agree with the comment on Bloomington, though I wouldn't personally waste my time living in Indiana.
If you are a student athlete, you have plenty to do. If you cannot have a decent social life at a school whose undergraduate enrollment tops 30k, then you've got problems that no amount of offerings could solve. "There's no such thing as bad weather, only soft people" -Bill Bowerman

Don't disagree with any of that, but when you can go to a school in CO, AZ, CA, UT, NM, etc, why would you pick the gloomy central time zone? Cloudy most of the time, cold as hell in the winter, and humid, with bugs in the summer.
i'd like to sleep with her. love little charlie me
