Seb Coe had near perfect form except his right arm was a bit wingy (something he readily admits). When he was young his nickname was coathanger.

Agree with the idea that Cram's technique wasn't perfect (slightly splayed feet etc..) but at his peak he was an unbelievably smooth mover. I still remember watching him totally dominate the Commonwealth 800m and 1500m at Edinburgh in 1986 and looking back on those races now, they're just as phenomenal as I remembered them. Opposition wasn't great admittedly (although Elliott was a sub 1.43 man at best)

1500m:
Cram looked like a gazelle from the side. The second lap in that CG 800 is beautiful. There's a certain likeness between him and Rudisha, just massively powerful, effortless strides. He was eating the ground up down the back straight. He makes a 1:43 man look like a jogger.
lagat has better form then either coe or cram

Form Matters wrote:Best form is specific to individual events. You would not expect the best form for the 100m is the same as the best form for the marathon. With that in mind the following people DO have the best form of all time for their distances:
100m - Bolt
200m - Bolt
400m - Johnson
800m - Rudisha
1500m - El Guerrouj
5000m - Bekele
10000m - Bekele
You are correct in saying that Coe did NOT have the best form ever.
You're an idiot.
Actually my dear little friend you and all of your form compatriots are all idiots. Your brilliant analysis of form always boils down to nothing more than "that which I find aesthetically pleasing".
The reality is that all elites run with the form that they do because that is the most efficient form for their particular body. And all of you form fools will forever be arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Kipketer
in no universe does david rudisha have better form than wilson kipketer.

Thank you for that funny little opinion. Good for a laugh.
We now know something of your sense of aesthetics. Nothing more, unless perhaps it is your sense of humor.
Cram is well over 6' and must possess an inseam of about 37". His toe-off was at ten-to-two, losing a few inches on his already mammoth stride and his head rolled and shoulders hunched when under threat. He had as monstrous a build and stride as Juantorena and at his best, he could have run a WR in flip-flops. A magnificent runner with equipment to strike fear into anyone: imagine standing next to him on the start line! But, IMO, he wasn't pretty.

Cram was probably 30 pounds lighter than Juantorena and shorter as well.
