In nearly all situations in the games, the winner had been in or right at the lead most of the way. Rarely, has someone pulled a Borsakovskiy or a Wottle and kicked from way back.
Rudisha was no kicker and easily won in Daegu last year. Started out fast, slowed down a tiny bit, maintained and just let it loose the last 100. Then again, I wouldn't exactly say it's fair for anyone being compared to him. The only reason Aman beat him last year was because he ran 3 fast races in the span of roughly a week, which was just stupid. He has the fastest 400 time in the field as well; probably be able to split 44 low by the Games since he's peaking towards that. I also say he breaks his WR again this year.
also true ...but when have we had such a great pool of 800 studs.....Symmonds Jock Martin Primm Greer Kd Andrews just to name a few!!!

jock is exactly where he needs to be, he ran 1:45.5 here last year then went on to run 1:44.6 at USA's. his coach's and his goal is to qualify for london, Jock isnt peaking early. he is WAY ahead of last year, and is even better from last year. he also opened up in the 800m with his fastest opener ever, this all being after running a lot of 1500's and some legs on relays
ryan last year.
So based on that he will be running 143.8 at the trials? Sorry but that's too big of a realistic improvement . Last year he had room for improvement. This year I doubt he will be able to maintain this fitness to the races that actually matter.
Why are you so negative on my boy jock!!!
I'm not. Just stating my opinion.
Both Jock and Martin have a better chance of making the team than Symmonds, who looked looked sluggish at Penn, where they were very generous with his 800 split on the DMR
In the 1984 Trials 800 final, 4 guys ran under 1:44. Why, 28 years later, do you think it is unrealistic that both Jock and Martin will run that fast?
okay man....if you had seen those dudes run .....you would be a believer....martin looked like he was red lining ....but jock looked like he was jogging....
Trials are in late June, am I correct on that? What were those guys in 1984 running for the 800 over one month before the trials? My guess would be that they weren't running their PRs/very close to their PRs.
Everyone who has run at UCI knows that backstretch can get breezy and it was today.
Jock went out and did his thing. Both ran a hell of a race. And both came back to run exceptional legs in the 4 x 400.
Some of the letsrun folks are so funny. Run too fast - he peaked to early. Run slower - guy lost his fitness from last year.
Baldy also had a hell of a doublt in women's 5000/10,000.
The 5000 was fun to watch. 1500 meter big west champ vs 10,000 big west champ. They all got rolling the last 400 or really 600.
Alright dude relax, sub 145 is unreal, and if they earn their spot to wear the red white and blue I will support them entirely.
All four had run low 1:44s in the years prior to 1984 and all four were within a second of 1:44 a month prior to the 1984 Trials. Your guess would be wrong.
Great to see the US distance program come alive for the 1st time in over 35 years. Jock, Andrews, Martin, Primm, Loxsom, Manzano, Hernandez, prove theat for the 1st time in most of our young lifetimes the USA is back. Go USA USA USA !
In case it came off wrong, I am extremely impressed with Sarah Sumpter's double where she set meet records in the 5000 and 10,000. It wasn't ideal conditions out there for the 5000 either.
Here story -
Did anyone get fairly accurate splits for Jock and Martin in the 4x4? Runnerspace doesn't have the video up.

where in any of that did you see me say he would be running 1:43.8 by the trials? i never even said he would be scaring sub 1:44 this year yet you decided to understand it that way. all i said is that he is ahead of where he was last year and is in good shape to potentially win nationals and come in top three at trials.
