Does anyone have the splits?
Bet Webb really wishes he'd stayed at Michigan, now....

So this is the fastest american mile on american soil?
It has to be. The old outdoor record before El G ran 3:49.92 was Morceli with 3:50.8 or so.
Jim Ryun was the previous holder of the fastest American mile on American soil with a 3:51.XX at an AAU meet in Bakersfield. Correct me if i'm wrong...

Willis gained 1.17 seconds on Webb in the last 109m.
1500m
Webb - 3:34.42
Willis - 3:38.20 (-3.78)
Mile
Webb - 3:50.85
Willis - 3:53.51 (-2.61)
Could Willis have the advantage off of a slow pace?
Willis gained 1.17 seconds on Webb in the last 109m.
Maybe Webb would have pushed a little harder with more competition. I would be interested in seeing all the splits, not just the last 15 seconds.
No.
If Webb had run the first 1500 meters of the race at a leisurely 3:38 pace like Willis, he would have had a monster kick left.
Honestly, who asks these stupid questions?
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Is this better than his 1500 PR?
Quick calculation that is probably off puts him at about 3:33.xx. But I think that's wrong, since he came off the 1500 in 3:34.42. So I would imagine it converts more than 1 second. Ask Malmo, he'll know easily.
Don't ask me, conversions are all subjective, anyway. They don't mean squat.
