A 3:46 is the same whether you're 3rd or 13th. If you're not leading you're getting pulled to the time.

At best, 6th at nationals. He is the worst tactical racer in the history of the world. Seeing that he has been competing for what seems like 6 years in D3, you'd think he would learn and take a race out quickly at nats.

Sorry but getting 7th at an early season meet at NC State doesn't deserve a thread.
Agreed. He certainly ran a good time, but exactly 6 people ran better times. Why is his performance threadworthy while the performances of the 6 people who ran better times aren't worth discussing?

Kip Litton gets a thread
If you don't think it's threadworthy, don't post in the thread. Other people who do think it's threadworthy can talk about it and if there are enough ouf them it'll stay up top.
so what if he doesn't run well at nationals? people on this board always write as if time trialing means nothing and the only thing that matters is winning at championship meets. i can never figure that out. running fast is a huge part of this sport and the reason most of us compete week in and week out.
anyway, in the past turlip has improved a decent amount over the course of the season. 3:43-3:42 could happen in a fast late season race. very rarely does a d3 guy down there. and quite honestly i would rather be a 3:42 guy and 6th at d3 nationals than a 3:50 d3 national champion.
I agree with you. If one were to break 4 mins in the mile (or equivalent 1500m) that would absolve all past D3 racing failures. But in order win in 3:50 you still have to close the last 400m in 56. (In which case you probably could run 3:45-46 as it is).Racing > time-trialing because it's a sport. The goal of the sport is to compete.

well first, i agree with some of the earlier posts about turlip needing to change his racing tactics if he wants to win at nationals. someone mentioned he has only 154-155 speed and has to go up against 150-151 types in a final. now in a tactical race where no one is tired with 300 meters to go he's obviously going to be in some trouble. we've seen that a few times.
my guess is he suffers from that common miler sickness - thinking they have the best kick in the world.
bad racing tactics aside, it's really not fair to imply he has no heart. you forget that time trialing IS racing.. in fact, racing in it's purest form.
last year nationals was won in 3:53, yet you needed to run 3:51 to qualify. i'm reminded of that quote about the slow paced 72 olympic 5k 12 man final "11 eleven stupid men". can't we accuse everyone but the winner of being a heartless coward? point is.. be fair to turlip here. he obviously isn't heartless.. or at least no more so than anyone who has ever sat back in a tactical championship race (most of us). if he's guilty of anything it's not changing his tactics to suit his strengths
I may be drunk, but my guess is that if he can run 3:46, he can easily run faster than 1:54
you're probably right. should be able to go 150-151, but either way his past races at nationals show he doesn't have the same foot speed as some of his competitors.
ah this just ain't fair. i doubt anyone associated with turlip started this thread and now the poor guy has to sit somewhere and watch you guys tear him up. that just ain't right.

You're about 20 years too early and 3500 meters too many in that reference -- it was about Cacho's Olympic 1500 win in 1992.
interesting, thanks for letting me know. i think i pulled it from "without limits" or some movie like that and assumed it was the 72 olympics.
