Hi there, I'm a first year mid/distance coach. I've enjoyed it so far, and I'm enjoying improvements that my athletes are showing.
I do have some questions though.
What do you do with a runner that shows up to practice after Basketball season? Say there's only 2 months or less before the district meet. What do I focus on? In this case, he happens to have decent potential. Do I bother with a mini base building phase? I'm not certain how to handle his training.
Also, I have a JV female that confuses the heck out of me. I can't quite determine whether she is an 8/16 runner or a 16/32 runner. Her 1600 pr is far superior than what she's ran in the other two races thus far. 1600 - 6:12... 800 - 2:54... 3200 - 14:50 ... her practices are hit or miss also. I can't seem to figure out what works best for her.
