So I'm a freshman in high school and just started running at the beginning of xc season. I trained consistently in the winter and moved up in the team standings quite a bit at the beginning of track. Recently, however, I've had a string of terrible races where each one has been worse than the last. My season bests for the 800 & 1600 are from time trials in early february and in most races I haven't even really come close to them. I feel like I have no confidence in my ability and every time I have a couple good workouts going into a race I'll just get crushed again with another awful time. I'm beginning to think there might be something legitimately wrong with me (ie. iron deficiency, underlying illness, etc.) but a few of my teammates think it's just a mental barrier. I'm getting really frustrated as people I was beating in early february have been blowing past me in races. I also frequently feel exhausted during easy runs, but usually feel good in workouts. Has anyone else been through something like this? What did you do to get back on track (no pun intended)?
