Im a 1600-5000m type of guy on the track team at school and want to make it to do sub 10 minutes in the 2 mile. We never had a boys xc team but i do a couple of 5ks. But our workout is basically on calisthenic and plyometrics,drills, some sprints and a 5 to 15 minute(run) jog. But we dont have any long runs, or tempos or 1 mile repeats or longer, and no mile per week counting. What type of training method is this? We even do p90x all day sometimes. i go to a public school district and the only events out of all the schools we excell in is sprints from 100m-400m and 800m sometimes. but we never had any stick outs in the 1600m or 3200m or xc. i have to admit i do be hurting after the callisthenics strength training but i just feel like it should be less strength training and more running for the only me the only long distance runner on the team. its been like this every year.
