Gram,
You are a fascist and therefore fall more out of the boundries of punk than Avril ever will. I grew up on Bad Religion, Social D, Vandals, Fear, X, Pistols, Clash and the like. Do you know the story about when the guys from the Clash were at a Rockabilly show, stopped by a punk club in their Rockabilly duds and got their asses kicked. Just because Mick, Joe and the boys dressed like cowboys on occasion, it didn't make them not punk. It's not the image that makes one punk, it's the attitude. For a lesson on this, I suggest Greg Graffin's essay on punk -- do a google and you'll find it. If you don't know who he is, disregard this message; it's been wasted on you. Punk is not stagnant but dynamic like everything else in the world. I hate to break it to you, but Blink, Reel Big Fish, Newfound Glory and their kin are punk. Do you know how the Ataris got their break? Once again look it up. If one of the best punk bands ever think they're good enough, I don't know what gives Gram Parsons Project followers the right to overrule them. In a day when teenage girls are taught by the media and culture to be little whores while following Lindsay Lohane, Britney Spears and the the other teen tramps, Avril meets the exact definiton of Punk by keeping her clothes on and saying in her latest song that maybe teenagers don't have to have sex with whatever guy demands it. Avril is closer to the line of Belly, Throwing Muses, Primatives and Voice of the Beehive than any female artist out today. It has nothing do do with whether she is hot or not. I would bet that the female artists you name as punk, Smyth and I'd hope you'd include Hynde, would disagree with you about Lavigne as well. Now as for the guy who started this thread, you're pathetic if all you get out of Avril is that she's eye candy.
