tracks most competitive events are the marathon and 100m.
rupps best chance is at 10000m.
salazar says rupp has better speed than farah.
so if rupp gains just a bit on strength and is right on the day, bronze or silver is not out of the question.
that said there are 10 ethopian and keynans that could pop a big one.
but the real odds - based on now are
Rupp medals
bronze are about 5:1
silver 8:1
gold 20:1
I should read the thread before jumping in, but wth.
If Rupp can close a 10,000 in 52, then he should run the 10k. If he can't, he should run the marathon. I don't care if his 10k PR goes down to 26:15 - if he can't run the last 400 in 52, he isn't going to medal.
easy.
Agreed. Probably needs to be faster than that by a hair even.

Kid, it's only long distance running. Who really cares in the grand scheme? A Federal Reserve that knows what's it's doing, competent economic policy advisors who don't merely retreat back to Berkeley or Princeton or become op-ed writers for the New York Times, and a scalable domestic energy policy... that's you're only hope.
What about raising the average literacy rate?
Where does Rupp run his ARs? IT'S A TRACK!
Rupp will join Cleff Holdfast, Ebe Endocott, Ratts Tyerell, Teemto Pagalies, and Aldar Beedo as racers who will sucumb to SSSSSSSSSSebulba!
haha, those flame vents get ya every time.
Well, I'll give credit where it's due. There is really only one thing that ultimately matters. And winning medals certainly ain't it.

WHO THE HE'LL ARE YOU ANYWAY, BEN BERNANKE ? GO AWAY FREAK!

Well, that was weird.
It will be Winter during Rio 2016. I run the 1/2M in Rio every year. It's about 60 degrees and not humid in the am. Could get up to 80 in the afternoon but won't be humid.
Don't count Solynsky out, he stayed with Lagat at the US Championships 5k and killed Gallen Rupp. Haters will note that Rupp had doubled after winning the 10k, but Solynsky had an achy it-band (or some other leg injury, I forget exactly what) which prevented him from running worlds. Salzar may say Rupp has speed, but Solynsky is a force to be reconed with.
Rupp has a twin that their parents could not afford so they sent her to an orphanage in Kenya when she was born hoping that she would become a great distance runner however she was eaten by elephants when she was 3.

Man, you totally had me going until you got to the eaten by elephants part. Don't you know that elephants are strictly maletarians?
Hall, you were the chosen one! You were supposed to bring balance to the Forceathon!
And it's way different than running a half, in an hour, in your debut.

Running a 'thon on hot asphalt road is entirely different than running on a soft-cushioned track; banks, harder, hotter, uneven, tight corners to turn, "water" to grab and chug.
In the last few years they broke every American record ... the mile, the 5K, the 10K and the marathon. And they broke it by a lot.
In HS, they obliterated the past records.
LetsRun should start a "Hall of Fame 2000": Perhaps the first inductees should be:
Alan Webb
Ryan Hall
Galen Rupp
Dathan Ritzehein
Chris Solinsky
Matt Tegenkamp
Bernard Lagat
that being said, can anyone name a famous Kenyan who is not a runner? I mean besides Jomo Kenyatta and Wanjiru's mom. It's all they've got, perhaps just let them have it.
