The runner-up ran 9:12 last year and probably would've done better if second wasn't over a minute behind

Does he not know how to win easily? A Mr. T. Poulos from the greater DC area could give him some lessons. If it takes 15:04 to win the race, run 15:04. If it takes 23:00 to win the race, run 23:00.
last year blake ran 9:12 for 3200m and 4:12 for 1600m, so blake is the real deal and cheserek beat him by 45 seconds.
Blake ran 4:15 for 1600m
The runner-up at the essex county meet, Blake Udland, ran 9:12 for 3,200 last spring.
He ran 4:15 with a stress fracture in his foot. He ran 4:12 earlier that season in a relay.
The kid is insane BUT...still not Ritz's 14:10 5k XC in Michigan :)
2nd best HS 5k XC ever?

No need to get too excited. Cheserek is fast but I would bet he is not of a "high schoolers" age. You should read Canovas post on how Kenyan's age is determined. He details what we all suspect.
Here we effin go again.

I understand the frustrating part about consistently mentioning the kid's age after a great performance, but it's honestly needed. Kenya has a notorious history of age-cheating; so much that even other Kenyans are now making attempts to resolve this ridiculously debilitating issue. Enough is enough. Not mentioning that this kid's age is suspect after every great performance would be equivalent (in my mind) to mentioning every great performance by Jacobs or Slaney without mentioning their PED history. What is embarrassing to the sport, and crippling on several levels, is that the world governing bodies erase legitimate records and allow bogus ones to live forever (i.e. 3:50 1500 record by Chinese) Just saying...
What kills me is people keep bringing up Ritz's times in Xc by comparison, but yet question this kid's age constantly.
He is way better than Ritzenhein at mile and 2 Mile already, yet has not run the 14:10 Ritz did on an XC course. Times are menaingless anyway , unless they are run on time tested venues that really good guys have run on historically.
To put this in perspective: Elkaim ran 14:55 and ran 8:46 3200 as a junior. Oster ran 9:07 and 4:15 and ran 14:56
Is the second mile insanely difficult or something? The splits from the article claim 4:28-4:48 for the first 2 miles (9:16). That would put him around 4:33 for his 3rd mile, despite him saying he "stepped on a rock after 2 miles and slowed down." Somewhat suspect in my opinion.
Can anyone confirm the course layout?
FYI-
I believe Ritz ran 4:24-4:34-4:40ish for his 14:10 at the State Meet course in MI. The first and last 1200m of that course are very pretty flat, with some roll during the middle 1.5 miles.

The term "just saying" is stupid. It deflates your opinion.
The kid has acknowledged that he does not know how old he is as he does not own his birth certificate. He has come to the states to obtain a good education that he could not receive elsewhere. Kid is a class act and while this isn't an exception, its up to NJ officials to make the call and they made the right one.
So Nappy Roots, instead of whining, then admit that all open elite Kenyan runners are actually masters runners..it works at both ends, right?
Whats your point? That Kenyans run fast irregardless of their age, so lets pick on their age, coz we have nothing else to pick on?
Boring.
There's no such word as irregardless, but I agree with your sentiment.
Back when I was in high school I ran this course at counties. It's overall pretty flat, almost like a track, but the second mile has a pretty serious (600-800m long I believe) hill. FWIW, in my first year of cross I went out in 5:23 and did mile 2 in 6:00.

No, the equivalent would be mentioning Jacobs and Slaney's PED history after every great performance by any American woman.
There are dozens of Kenyans who can run as fast or even faster than Cheserek given an opportunity.
You should remember that Cheserek wasn't running as fast as he does now when he was in Kenya, but given an opportunity, he could do it.
Many young Kenyans run in between house chores, once they get an opportunity to focus only on running, amazing things happen.
un
A Kenyan high schooler in Japan went under 14 minutes 5 k recently. Read about that from Japan running news website:http://japanrunningnews.blogspot.com/2011/10/charles-ndirangu-131544-national-high.html
Cheers!
Thanks for telling me what I should believe rather than agreeing to disagree with what I specifically stated as my personal opinion. Typical narcisstic behaviors on LRC message board. I also don't think we have to extract these extremist, ridiculous notions that because this kid is allegedly older than some of you believe that he should be classified as a master's runner. Again, that's ridiculous. And rather than make these blatant attempts to undercut my statements, suggesting that I'm whining and complaining, please understsand the difference in "whining" versus advocating. There are others who agree with me, but choose to keep their thoughts to themselves.
Call me what you want, but I'm sticking to my principles. There is no reason an open debate should not be allowed simply because he's a phenom. His race is irrelevant as well, as I'd be screaming just as loudly if he was blonde hair, blue eyed, and Swedish. I've never suggested he's not talented, fast, and doesn't work hard for his results. I'm sure he does and root for his personal success. This is clearly a reflection of our sport and not a personal attack against him. Again, this is our sport's pervasive and collective issue that spans across all competitive levels at this point.
Regardless, his age remains suspect as he collects meet, course, state, and national records. For every one of you who believe I'm wrong for continuing this discussion, there is a 16-18 year old high schooler competing against this guy that appreciates it beyond measure.
yeah....but....he is like 25 lol. act like he's not
Just curious- What was your final time?
