Is that a good time? What did the Rosas run there?
Well the Rosas aren't in Essex County so I don't know if they ever ran the course. Maybe a New Jersey native will know if they ran at Brookdale Park. But to put the race in perspective, last year Cheserek ran 14:42 there, and Jeramy Elkaim ran 14:55 there. Elkaim ran 15:28 at states last year and lost to Jim Rosa by 14 seconds. So if Elkaim ran about 33 seconds worse at Homdel Park than Brookdale, I think Cheserek's 14:53 at Homdel this year is worth about the same as what he got today.

Does anyone know if the course is a 5k or a 3mile?
Because if it's a 5k, that time is absolutely unreal
5k. He was 4:28 at the mile, 9:16 at 2, crushed Tyler Udland (a very good runner), who ran 15:05.

Tyler Udland graduated from millburn 2 years ago. His younger brother, Blake Udland came in second today and ran 15:05.
No need to get too excited. Cheserek is fast but I would bet he is not of a "high schoolers" age. You should read Canovas post on how Kenyan's age is determined. He details what we all suspect.

Ugh who cares. That's not what this thread is about. Don't bring it up unless it's proven and enjoy the performance.
Which counties were in the race, besides Essex?
I'm told it's an extremely fast, track-like course, and conditions were pretty good today. And this is a guy who's run 14:02 on the track. So 14:19 is very good, but probably on a par with what he's already done on tougher courses.
Short course, 25 years old, etc etc.

Cheserek is the right age. I personally watched the kid grow up. He was considerably shorter than me until about tenth grade when most people get their growth spurts. You really have nothing to worry about, the guy is legit.
Without questioning his age... are there any other Kenyans his age living in Kenya who can run as fast as him? Or is this amazing because it's faster than anyone else his age even in Kenya?
Oh right, Blake Udland. I take it he's pretty good, too, by that time?
I don't remember the details but he's supposed to have been really good in Kenya, too, winning some high school championships. The amount he's improved in the last year makes it pretty obvious that he's not 25.

um, what counties were in the essex county championships? not many

So just a couple then? I thought this race was a big deal or something. Turns out it's just small fries with only a few counties.
Saw him after he crushed the record at Van Cortlandt and he does not appear to be more than 16-17. If he is older so be it, he is amazing non the less. He should dominate NXN and Footlocker if he runs both.
how many kenyans were in this excess county race?
I don't know anything about the course but he beat a kid by 46 seconds who still ran a a 15:05. What did the runner-up do on the track last spring. If he was 9:10 then that's an all-time race in cross country for a US high school kid. (Cheserek).
