In wanting to get some sort of training data for the upcoming cross country season, I am conducting a time trial during the first week of high school XC practice.
For the girls, I am having them do a 2k time trial and for the boys a 2,400m time trial. I had thought about doing a mile, but that doesn't necessarily weed out those who didn't train all summer- and I think a 2 Mile might not give a realistic ability of current condition either (since the time trial is mid-week and they'll be fatigued).
Would it be logical to say that I could base training off of the results for these 2k/2,4k time trials?
Is it logical to use the pace-per-mile here as a goal pace for the end of the season?
Use as an indicator of velocity @ VO2 Max?
