Hey guys, I'm trying to lower my 400m time from 55 to sub-50 so that I can improve my 400IH times. However, it's clear that I lack real speed. Right now, i'm working on endurance with XC training but I plan to integrate more speed endurance, for the 400m, in September.
The last time I did a 200m was in June and my time was 25.4. My 400m time is 55. Looking at both my 200m and 400m time, it looks like I'll have to break 23 if I want to get to a sub-50 400m. What do you guys think? Is it possible? What can I do in September?
I'm 16, 150 pounds, 5'10".
This is what I'm doing right now:
Monday: 2 mile run in the morning
Weights -
3x6 bench press(115lb)
3x6 squat(155lb)
3x6 stiff-leg deadlift(135lb)
3x6 bent-over rows (105lb)
ab work
summer of malmo(usually 200s)
Tuesday: 2 mile run in morning
afternoon practice
Wed:
Same as Monday except afternoon training is team practice(usually about 6-7 miles).
Thursday: same as Tuesday
Friday:
Same as Monday
I'm lifting heavy compound lifts with low reps inorder to build strength, a department of which I'm lacking.
So, to anyone that can help, what should I change, add on, or do later in order to improve my general speed to eventually lower my 200m from 25 to 22.5-9? Thanks.
