what is the ideal racing weight for high school runner that is 5'8. my weight pretty much differs from 135 to 140 on any given day, is that to small or on the big side for a runner?

Pretty average. Im 155-160 and 5 foot 10. Definately one of the biggest "good" high school runners.
Mostly it depends on whether the weight is muscle or fat. Mine is some of each. Like my quads are massive and I like to think I can generate a lot of force with them (maybe not, but I like to think so). Unfortunately, I also have soem fat.
I hear that man. I'm just shy of 6'0''. (Like 5'11.5'') And looking at all these elite guys, I thought I had to cut some weight. So I got down to 148 from my natural 160 pounds through a near-starvation diet. It sucked. And I felt like shit all the time. Here's the kicker - once I started eating normally again I shot back up to 160 in like 3 days. So I don't know. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a kenyan.
I guess the best advice is worry less about weight and more about good training. If you're training hard and listening to your body's needs - then the weight should take care of itself.
well its just that i am extremely skinny! like Its not like i am chubby or anything you can see just about every bone from my nipple line up. I guess i must have muscular thighs or something. Also i think any day i will way anything from 135 to 140 it must just fluctuate. honestly i eat pretty shitty so i would not be surprised if it was because of my diet. but some days i will only eat dinner. i was 140+ during the school year but once summer training started i slimmed down to a 135.
no one else? :/

You are an idiot for trying to cut weight by going on a starvation diet. 6'0, 160 is fine. Current day solinsky, alan webb in 2007(his best year), Peter Snell, Jim Ryun, etc were all a lot faster than you'll probably ever be and were heavier than you (relative to height).
Keep training a lot and don't worry about your weight. It WILL take care of itself. If you're still not cutting weight even though you're training a lot, then that's the weight that your body works best (runs fastest) at.
but is my weight ideal for me? I weighed myself tonight and got 134, so maybe i am starting to loose it. by the end of summer i am trying to get down to 125
Ahh, good ol' Lets Run. Home of the brutally honest feedback. I agree, I was an idiot for starving myself and yes, I will never be as fast as Solinsky or Webb. But neither will you.
Assumeing you are american born- regardless of height, at your weight you will never be considered "Big".
I am a 16 yr old girl, 5'6" normally about 118. This spring did more speed work than usual, developed some bulkier leg muscles, got to about 122. Ran my best times in the 800 and the 1500...I'll be interested to see what XC brings (Back down to 118 on summer base mileage)
