Start out with five hills and then work your way up.
Since when is 8 miles a long run?
hey stupid if he is only going to be a junior and he is only racing 3 miles why would he need to go any higher mileage than 8 or 10 miles. First it could damage his growing since he is still young and it has no point for a 3 mile race
I agree with Trolol. 8 miles is not a long run. OP is still in "training wheels" mode.

As for hills on long days.......I wouldnt do them on that day. Make your long run longer if you feel like you need more.
You can never run enough hills. And an 8-mile long run? lol

Concentrate on the long run. If you want to run hills just include them into your long run. Good luck

No. You have already accomplished what you set out to do for that day... completely deplete the glycogen storage in your leg muscles.
