Maybe because you cannot spell college??
Unless you are going to be sticking pieces of paper together ??
It is the holiday weekend and coaches need a break too. Don't worry you will get plenty of calls. What schools would you like to look at?
am i the only one? wrote:

Yea, about that - I would rethink the whole 'collage' thing.
Or, maybe an art school? I hear they do collages at some of those!
Most schools do not call. They send letters, or they call your coach, and then send a letter. This ain't football, it is track.
Give it a week or so... I didn't get any Division 1 calls until about July 10th. Just because they don't call on July 1st doesn't mean they aren't interested. Trust me, I've been there.
Your times and enthusiasm will allow you to run for a lot of colleges. If you are looking for a big running scholarship, that is one thing. If you want to run at college because you love it and want some financial assistance (not a running scholarship) because you are going to be involved in their activities and are a strong student, that is another deal.
Lots of variable to look at. I have known girls with slower times who were coached well and worked to become big 12 and big 10 caliber athletes. I have known super talented gals who have fizzled out very quickly at college.
I am not sure what you mean by "today is the day they are allowed to call." Lots of high school kids, I know, have already signed and are being advised on their summer running by their college coach. Are you going into your senior year?
Hope you end up running at college.
*college i mean.
geesh, im sorry for spelling something wrong. & ok, I was worried :/
I am not intent on just a few colleges, as I am keeping my options as open as possible!
I'm a male and going to be a senior in the fall. I don't really know about the whole recruiting process, but I didn't put up stellar junior times due to injuries. Are the athletes that get calls mainly the ones that run D1 type times? Should I just not really expecting anything (4:40 1600, 9:50 3200) I was capable of a 4:25 1600 though :(

nope. gonna have to pursue them if you want their attention. less competitive schools might give you some time of day if you visit them.
Woulda, coulda, and shoulda don't really matter.
Based on what you have run, I doubt you're going to get any calls. There are just too many guys that run those kind of times.
Your best bet is to figure out several colleges that have a major that interests you, then contact the coach at each school. Fill out the information form. If you hear back anything other than "thanks", they might be interested.
At this point you haven't run anything that suggests you would be competitive in the future at the DI level in college. If you really want to run, try to find a good academic fit with a decent DII or DIII program. You are going to have to sell yourself but most of those programs have more relaxed walk-on standards than DI programs; though, there is some overlap between the low end of DI and the upper end of DII/DIII programs.

Yeah they wont call. I hit 4:29 and 9:40 as a soph and f***ed up my leg this past year. Went from a decent amoutn of letters from okay schools to barely any from shitty schools.
I would laugh so hard if anyone called me.
Just try to walk on and explai nthe situation if you have a legit excuse for why you couldnt run a 4:25. Which is actually not even that good for D1. That makes you maybe able to walk on.
I was in a similar boat in high school (4:28 soph, fell down a hill in xc junior year). Contact coaches and you should be fine. My plan was to establish contact over the summer so when I was running fast in xc in the fall it wasn't too late to get the coach's attention. Plus coaches like 2 kinds of athletes: a sure thing or a diamond in the rough that makes them look like they know how to develop athletes.
I ran 9:05 in HS and got a 50% athletic scholarship to a D1 program, I took all 5 official visits, and for 4 of those 5, I contacted them. The 1 that contacted me ended up being the lowest offer.
The point is, its in your hands. The top few in the state may be getting unsolicited phone calls, but most of us have to do the work.
You ain't that good girl. Your a dime a dozen. That's the problem with kids today, give me, give me, give me. Maybe if you ran 10:15 and 4:45 you would have had the phone ring. Maybe not. Go for a run, get better and things will work out.

You don't have to run 10:15 and 4:45 to receive calls. My Pr's were 10:26 and 4:53 and I received multiple calls on the first day. For the poster that said this isn't football, while I certainly agree with that, during the week I would receive anywhere from 1 to 4 calls/night. I can't imagine how some of these very young high school basketball/football players deal with the recruiting process. I did my research and signed as early as possible. Ended up taking 4 officials and 3 unofficials and was offered full ride scholarships from 5 out of the 7 schools. Selected one of the two schools that only offered partial.
Recruiting is not a one-way street. Reach out to coaches at schools you're interested in. Think of it from the coaches perspective. Think about how many girls run 5:0X every year and ask yourself if you think it'd be feasible for a coach to contact all of them. Since that's obviously not feasible, what do you think the coach would use to determine which of the infinite number of 5:0X girls to contact? The first criteria I would use is whether the athlete has shown any interest in my program. Then maybe move to athletes whose high school coaches I know personally, athletes who are friends with some of the girls already in my program...
So...you are pretty much saying im not going to get very many calls?
I'm a guy who went through this last year and I got one phone call on July 1, and the coach had already told me a week earlier by email that he'd call. I ran good times as a junior - Foot Locker finalist, sub 4:15 1600 and sub 9 3200. And great grades and test scores, too. Calls trickled in for well over a month. I even got contacted by a few as late as Dec and Jan, usually from programs that had had a recent coaching change. I don't think I got any calls ever from schools that I hadn't filled out a recruiting form on, though, either online or in response to a letter. But I eventually ended up getting calls from the few schools I was really interested in, so it all worked out. I was sort of thinking the phone would ring all day on July 1 but it definitely did not. Maybe for football or basketball but not for running. Unless you are Lukas Verzbicas or Aisling Cuffe maybe.
I don't know girls times very well so I don't know where you stand on recruiting. But make sure you've filled out the forms for any programs you're interested in. It doesnt hurt to follow that up with an email if you sre really interested in the college. My impression is that recruiting is a one man or woman job at most places and most coaches are not going to contact you out of the blue, looking for your contact info etc. if you haven't provided it.
You really need to learn to market yourself, quit expecting coaches to call you, why don't you go to the colleges your interested in and fill out the questionnaires, then email the coaches.
I do not want to say you sound like you are entitled but you have to make it happen and don't wait for coaches to call you. I have been a high school coach for 25 years and most of the kids who ran in college contacted the schools they were interested in. Very few got a call.
If you want it, go get it!!
Have fun checking out the colleges on the web.
