220 lb runner, looking for cushioned shoe

I way about 230 lbs and have no problem doing about 30 miles a week in the asics 2160 (or whatever the current number is).

Of course that doesn't meant it would work for you and when i first started running my knees hurt a lot too.

That depends on three things.

What shoe did pencil neck put you in?

Where did your knee hurt? Front/back/side, above/below/underneath kneecap? Did it hurt after running, or during, or both?

Second, and this part is hard to help you with since I can't see your feet, how do your feet work? Do you have a strong, neutral arch that doesn't flex inwards if you do a squat? Do your arches flex inward a little or a lot when you do a squat? Are your arches flat on the floor?

I know its a lot of questions, but it is very easy to recommend the wrong shoes, and can be very difficult to recommend the right ones sometimes. There isn't a "best" shoe, because everybody has different feet and different preferences. NEVER go with what is most popular just because.

Answer the above questions as best you can, and I might be able to help. Even better, put a video cam on the floor and tape your feet while doing some deep knee bends from on front of your feet and from behind. Do this barefoot and with the shoes that pencil-neck sold you, post on youtube or something, and then post on here. That will really help narrow things down to what kind of shoe would work the best.

I'm 220 and run 6-8 miles a day. Mizuno Wave Creation have worked for me. They are heavier than other shoes but are super comfortable.

If you are a Neutral Runner, try the NB 1080.

Avoid running on pavement. I am about 130 lb and about the only time I'll run on pavement is in a race, where it's usually unavoidable. One thing to keep in mind that the cushioning in running shoes tends to become crushed and useless quickly. I suggest looking at either ASICS or Brooks both use different materials for cushioning.

OP here.

My knee twinges a little running, but mainly hurts/stiffens that night and next day at the bottom and slightly behind kneecap. If I don't ice/ibuprofen, it affects my walking the next day.

Apparently my arches are about medium to high. I painted the bottom of my feet and walked on paper. Arch must not be too strong however, because it flexes inward a somewhat on squatting.

I currently use Brooks Adrenaline 11 which may be good for me, just wondering if there was better.

I was considering Asics Nimbus, Wave Creation, Kayano, or maybe something by Brooks. Not too familiar with NB. Kinda opposed to Nike on philosophical grounds but if they got something that would help, can overlook their coporate distaste.
