If it's slow, remember Gibney blew the doors off Batty (an oft-mentioned fav) @ Penn.
Food for thought.

I'm going Phillips in 3:39, but I think Ulrey has just as good a shot. Don't sleep on O'Hare either.
People are counting out AJ too soon. He is the top returner, a 353 miler, and running in his last race as an Oregon Duck. It may not be at Hayward but I know AJ's ego (I don't know any other way to phrase that, sorry AJ) is too big/strong not to go out with a huge performance. He is planning on having a long season so his early slump was expected. I'm betting he is just getting into peak form. Batty may be an NCAA champion and the surprise of the year, Ulrey a WC team member seeking his first title (correct me if I'm wrong), and Centro one of the best milers of the last few years but when that pack rounds the final turn with 100m to go, I'm expecting to see the Oregon green and yellow power through the finish line.
1.Acosta
2.Ulrey
3.Centro (next year, next year)
4.Batty
5.Phillips
Ah I did not know Ulrey grabbed the indoor 3000 title.
some darkhorse picks to add to my previous post:
Pat Casey
Matt Gibney
and Erik van Ingen
Miles Fratty..
jeremy rae from notre dame will come up big and cracktop five.
Centro is an animal. He'll win it. Within two years, he'll be vying with Wheating for title of best American miler. Kid ran 8:41 2 mile and 4:03 mile in high school and has produced ever since. 7:50 3000 in, what, February? He'll win. Ulrey hasn't been the same as in years past.
I think Abdi Hassan of Arizona may suprise. Ran very well at West and kicks extremely well.
well i know this from reading this thread... it should be entertaining.
I'd have to say Ulrey is slight favorite. Remember, Foster was top 3 at 800 and also 3rd in indoors at mile. I doubt he'll win, but should be top top 5.
LV for the surprise entry

Finals
Ulrey, Batty, Hlaselo
Hlaselo is coming off an injury and will be lucky to make the final.
Michael Hammond for the win!!!
Very close race just like the 800. Right now I believe AJ will win. Ask me tomorrow I might say Mr. Batty. I think someone from Oregon will get the win. Ulrey and AJ need that title the most. Maybe AJ just a hair more. I believe Ulrey has a indoor title. I think AJ has zero NCAA individual titles. Correct me if I am wrong. Ulreys title comes from a slow tactical indoor 3k. Can he win a 1500 meter title if the pace is decent. I think he is the champ if the race is won around 3:40. Okay I have a great question. Since the prelims are soon and the final a bit further away. Of the big names who is most likely to miss the final.
If the pace goes out hard, it is between O'Hare, Batty, and Centrowitz last 200 meters. They are the only people I have seen kick hard after a fast start.
Batty has run a frickin' 3:36 and clearly has the endurance speed that the rest of them don't have.
Centro kicks hard and kicks early. Always has.
O'Hare came back on Alen Webb AND LALANG for Christ's sake at Drake in the last 300 meters when we was behind by what - 20 meters? And ended up beating Webb.
For the others... If the race goes out slow, Acosta (he is a complete a-hole, by the way. He has been known to pull people down in a race and make it on through to the final on a technicality. Saw it happen just before my eyes at Hayward Field in a championship race. Lost all respect for him, Nonetheless, good kick off a "SLOWER" pace).
Ulrey has experience that none of the others have. But, he hasn't been running as well lately has in the past, so maybe he is just waiting to come out at Nationals. Maybe not. Wouldn't put my eggs in that basket, but clearly a favorite to win if he runs tactically sound.
My prediction:
O'Hare
Batty
Centro
Ulrey
Acosta
I put O'Hare as #1 because no one else has.
Plus, I like to see a Scotsman win.
Centro looking good, Acosta looking in trouble.
Acosta does not qualify for final.
No Acosta, no Hassan. Centro ftw, JEREMY RAE IN SECOND!!![
JEREMY RAE FTW! JUST WATCH.
ND BOYS 1,2. O'Hare 3rd.
1) Centro
2) Ulrey
3) O Hare
4) Batty
