How do these compare to the Nike Zoom Victory? They look more like the Matumbos with a rubber outsole so you can run on dirt, grass, etc. I like the Victories for the mile and 2 mile in track, so does this have a little more cushioning than the Victory?
Of course it has more cushioning; it's also a racing flat. It's a great shoe, but I make one recommendation: don't run in them without socks. I wore them two weeks ago without socks and go two large blisters on my right foot..
Yeah, I have a pair. Definetly a lot heavier material, you need to wear socks. But probably the lightest xc shoe I've ever had by a long shot. Also the best I've worn

Same with mine. Its the seam that holds the toe together that rubs on the top of the my toe. I fixed this by putting NU Skin on the seam so it would not cut up my toes.
how do the victory xc's compare to the matumbos as far as sizing goes? I wear 9.5 in the matumbos sockless and they fit great. Should I go about .5 higher?
So is it good for both grass and dirty, with an occasional rocky patch? That's my main reason for getting these instead of using my track spikes, I figured they are more durable and provide better grip on those surfaces.

It's good for any kind of terrain. Besides, for XC, you shouldn't use spikes... I don't recommend using any shoe that has a plastic plate because it gets destroyed by any pavement you run on. They are indeed more durable, and provide excellent grip needed for XC, but one annoying thing I found was that the spike slots get rocks stuck in them and me having OCD and all just has to get them out. It also ruins makes it more difficult to put spikes in/take em out if you decide to use them for Track.
Are the Victory XCs as aggressive of a spike as the track Victorys? I wear the Vent 2s for track because I find the Victory a little too aggressive. I am just picking my spike for the upcoming XC season and am considering wearing an XC spike as opposed to a track spike.
the victory XCs are more relaxed than the victory track spike. I run in matumbos for track and found these very similar. The plate is like a hybrid between the matumbo/vent plate and the victory track spike.
If they made the victory XC plate with the super thin victory track spike upper, I'd wear it for track. Can't get enough of this plate.
