Is anyone using the new New Balance 890 for longer runs of 12 to 15 miles? If so do you think it will be a good choice to run a half marathon or perhaps a full marathon?

I've worn the 890s for runs of up to 22 miles, they're very durable. Wouldn't be my first choice for a marathon racing shoe, still a little bit too heavy for my preference. New Balance is due to release the 1400 relatively soon: it's built with the same Revlite cushioning as the 890 but is 2 ounces lighter I think
7/1 Scheduled release for the 1400. I'm liking the 890's and if it was available now, I might try the 1400 as a marathon shoe. As it is I might end up using my 890's.
Do you think the 890 is more suited for a mid-foot or heel strike?

Anything with a positive heal to drop is more suited for a heal strike. If you want to work on mid-foot striking, you need to work on your form. A Minimal shoe will help you get there..maybe try the Minimus. Just a thought
good luck!
I did 16 hilly miles in mine yesterday without any complaint.

Thanks. NB claims the 890 is equally good for mid-foot striking as it is for heel striking. I have more of a mid-foot strike so I was wondering if anyone could confirim this.

You can run with a midfoot strike or a heel strike in any shoe.
The Minimus is absolutely not a racing flat, anyone who recommends it as such has no idea what they're talking about.
Bumping this action
Would you suggest them for someone who has been running in Vomeros? Do you rock them everyday or alternate with another shoe?
CAN I GET A BUMP? AMEN!
I'm not lightning fast (just under a 4 hr marathoner), but I'd have to say that the 890 is the best shoe I've ever trained and/or raced with.. It's light, but still has good support & cushioning. I used to always run with Nike Vomero and sometimes experienced soreness and pain in my arches on long runs; but since using the 890, I have been a pain-free runner. Heading out for a new pair this weekend :-)
890: phenomenal neutral shoe. however, if your not neutral, or even if your a neutral runner in a stiffer neutral shoe, be cautious. it is very flexible and soft feeling. also, not good on trails at all. great for half-marathon and marathon racing though in my opinion. and you can heel strike or midfoot strike in any shoe, some just force you to do it more than others. personally, i midfoot strike in the 890 and it works fine.
