For the record those were all Iowa Central athletes, not Iowa Western (there were not at this meet). Stanley Kebenei of Iowa Central ran 3:42 by himself. Michael Hancock ran 13.58 in the hurdles.

Sorry, my friend at the meet told me wrong.
he is kenyan and it is a junior college. if that puts things into perspective lol.
I'm in HS I run 9:20 for a 2mile. could I win the D3 5K my freshmen year, if I go to a d3 school that is???
There are usually 5+/- DIII freshmen every year how ran sub-9 in high school or close too it
I ran 9:20's in HS and by my second year in DIII I was top ten at cc national meet.
What perspective is that?? That when he is done at a juco and goes DI then you will give him credit for running fast but not now??
Yes, but only if you run your pr and then close in 4:20.
how come nationals is won in like 14:35 something each year? that would put me way ahead of that. I think I could just stay on pace after I go through the 2 mile (which doesnt seem too far out of the question in one year). So I really think I could win D3 nats as a freshman. I guess I am just wondering how often that happens. AND who is under 9 that goes d3? That seems unlikely, I had a guy in my conference go sub 9 a year ago and he got a full ride to a D1 school. Why would you go d#
If you could actually win D3 nationals as a freshman, you are far from a "regular HS guy". Also, most important college races have something called tactics.
How does Kosgei STILL have eligibility... are you serious?

There's this thing called a tactical race... Notice that the INDOOR 5k went like 14:15 this year because Heynmann decided to take it out fast for a change. There are d3 runners that can run 2 miles sub-9 so it would certainly take improvement and you don't have it in the bag but good luck.

If you can run that pace for 5k, you might squeeze into the national meet, but you will not be remotely close to winning in a tactical championship race. I'd say on average guys are able to run their high school two mile paces for 5k their sophomore or junior year, depending on how developed they were coming into college.
seriously though, who in d3 is a sub 9 minute 2 miler in HS. I just don't believe that statement. It's crazy to me considering that the guy I knew that broke 9 got a full ride to a really good d1 school. that is why I don't buy a lot of this.

I definetely will be following. I graduated Buffalo State in 83 and there has never been the type runners we have there now in National Champions Justin Allen,Xavier Mateen and Erica Johnson. There will be some fast times outdoors. Eugene Lewis has brought the program to new heights!!!
