Hello. just my two cents on Dave Wottle. I ran on the team in 71. dave was very talented.he worked extremely hard.i know he hated to run slow.morning runs he just had to take -off by himself. Bowling Green won the central-collegiate championships at Colorado springs that year at the Air Force Academy.Dave was second,i think, to Mke Ryan.tough, hilly couse;extremely windy and the altitude just killed us, before, during, and after. remember the first mile was flat/downhill and we went through at around 4:15.THEN WHAM! uphill into a 40mph wind. 2 mile mark was ridiculously slow. very tough race.almost all of the team puked on the flight back to ohio. Dave had tremendous endurance and will. certainly evident in his incredible, almost impossible finishing sprint in the Olympic 800. team members/runners sat and watched him on tv , trail the field by a huge gap,one that we feared that even he could not close.we had all not only seen his huge explosive power at the finish before ,but had felt it in training. watch the final 80 meters and feel your heart speed up. chris doyle
