Please keep in mind this is from Competitor group, which has contracts with a number of athletes most of which are on that list. They are also head quartered in San Diego which is why the CA based runners make up a very high percentage of this list.

We haven't been in total mainstream media blackout as a sport over this decade. I think the things that acquired the most attention deserve to be the biggest moments.
That puts at the top Alan Webb's HS AR and Meb's NYC win. Both those guys went on Letterman. Meb was on the cover of the NYT's sports page. Say what you want about what is good within the sport, winning the darling media spotlight is the biggest thing for USA running.
After that, the performances at the highest levels-Meb and Deena winning medals in Athens, Shalane winning a medal in Beijing.
the rest begins to seem inconsequential. it kind of blends in, because the rest was only important internally. if only Letsrun watchers know about the feat, it is not the biggest thing for USA running.
did I miss any other large mainstream media moments? anything that at least made ESPN or the cover of a newspaper?
That's a poor barometer. Meb winning NYC got on Letterman because Letterman is in NY and obsessed with things in NY. Lagat's 15/5k double was easily better. But the NY-centric media would never recognize that.
going from memory, i believe Webb's 3:53 was on the FRONT page of the NYT, not the sports page---
Sexist much?
Just think how long Jim Ryun's high school mile record of 3:55.3 lasted. 3:53.43 is going to be around for a very LONG time.

He's not sexist, men are faster than women. This should be easy to understand for you, but I can tell by your handle that it might actually be difficult for you.
