Is he black?
Is he black?
The beauty of Track & field that their is another kid in the school dying for a chance to be part of the team and relay. Rather than dwell on repeating with the same 4 focus on repeating the accomplishment of last year again this year regardless of the make-up.

Why do you ask?
Oh dear, a sprinter without base. That just means he runs 10.6 or 10.7 instead of 10.4.
If you can replace this kid with another 10.7 guy (I'm sure every hs has these guys roaming the halls), start recruiting. Other than that, start begging.

No. See, the thing about Track & Field is that there is rarely anyone who cares. If you have 4 guys dedicated to improving, you will likely have the State champions. That is usually all it takes. Most 4X100 teams are one good runner, one mediocre runner, one kid whose football coach is making him run and some shot put thrower the coach found at the last minute.
As a high school Senior and returning indoor 2 mile State Champ (2nd outdoors, damn it), I decided I no longer wanted to run XC. I wanted to hang out with friends, girls etc. My parents tried to convince me to stay on the team but were very lenient when it came to life choices. As long as I had good grades, they let me do pretty much whatever I wanted with my time (nothing harmful, dangerous, illegal).
After a few months, I got one phone call from a college recruiter and woke up. I was back on the team in time for our last duel meet. I won conference, regionals and 2nd again at State (damn it). Got a full ride to my 1st school of choice and never looked back.
I guarantee my life would be much different had I quit. I would have probably not done as well in school, wouldn't be running today, never would have met my wife, etc. I am sure I wouldn't be destitute, but I bet I am better off having run.
Maybe talk to a local college and see if you can have a coach speak with him. Senior year of high school, decisions are made in the moment. Snap him out of it. If he really doesn't want to run, that is one thing, but I bet he is just glamorizing the free time.

I can see you dont know what the hell you are talking about. A base is extremely important to a sprinter. Every statement you made is stupid. The difference between a 10.7 and a 10.4 is enormous!! Also, if you think finding a 10.7 kid is easy, you are wrong again. Maybe its easy at a 5A school in Texas or Cali, but nowhere else. Stick to distance running.
It is true, it's not all that easy to just find another 10.7 kid.
You might want to point out to this guy that if he gets a free ride to a D1 school, he'll have 4 or 5 more years of time to hang around with chicks and watch porn! I'm sure he'd have no problem completing his Rocks for Jocks academic requirements.

I cannot see any error in his judgement...
Tell him he can show up and only run in sectionals/regionals/state (whatever your set up is)
10.7 guy in every school? That is like saying there is a 1:55 800 guy or 4:15 miler in every school!

Well if they mean potential wise then definately

but..........................The fastest kid decided he doesnt like track anymore and he is not running this year. No particular reason, he is just tired of track.
Son of a bitch runs a 10.5 100m and he would rather play X-Box.
This is actually the main reason why I like the individual aspect of cross country and solo events in track -- your success or failure is tied only to your own performance.
But, if I were you, I wouldn't waste a second thinking about that kid. Can't worry about or get pissed about stuff you can't control.

I'm kinda pissed off they let you even have kids. What kind of parent does not teach their kids to face problems instead of randomly posting them on some online forum. I don't understand why it is even your problem. You son of a bitch you should give your kid/s to a real parent!

There were six 1:55 guys and four (different guys) sub 4:10 milers in my high school - a 1A school with 65 kids in Northern Iowa ...
Of course, I'm not serious. My original point was that your 10.6 guy would be a 10.7 or maybe 10.8 guy this year doing next to nothing. You'd have to look pretty hard to find a high school anywhere in the States with more than 4 sub 10.7 sprinters.
If the OP wants to repeat as State champs, they need this clown - training or no training.

I would be soooo happy if I had a gf to do that with.
no he is a midget.
A kid who has won a state championship and does not want to return has reasons. And they are more than likely academic. He is saving face by saying he doesn't want to do track, when the real truth is that he will be ineligible. Or he has family issues. You people need to get your heads out of your butts, there is an underlying issue going on here.
That sucks. Oh well we got second to you last year and all four of our guys are back and they are hungry. You can even invite your boy back but we are still going to beat you.

I can read minds of unidentified strangers too. For example, I can already tell that your mind contains all knowledge, has no mistaken presumptions, and keeps a full array of insults for others.
