I know that most visitors to these boards care primarily about men's racing, but less than 36 hours before three U.S. Olympic women marathoners are going to be selected, these isn't a single thread about the Trials. That's bizarre.

Perhaps that's because the women competing don't come on here to trash-talk, give constant updates about their training, etc. We probably just need a JACQUELINE_IN_CHINA to get things started.
Talking with the athletes at the hotel. I see the top 3 as
1. colleen
2. magdalena
3. sylvia
Kstor will DNF
kastor will DNF? where the heck do you get that? I'm thinking
Kastor
de reuck
russell
Youngquist
wells
There's absolutely no basis for believing Kastor will DNF
1) Kastor, 30whatever
2) De Reuck, almost 40
3) Mosqueda, almost 38
No kids get to make the trip to Athens
this race seems far more open than the men's, which makes it fun. There are a good 1/2 dozen dark horses (fillies?) that could take 2nd and third, interesting that there are 3 Jens on the list among them (Crain, Rhines, and Spangler)
1) Deena, 2:27
2) Colleen, 2:29:30
3) Jen somebody
Serious, Jen Rhines is ready to have a good one, 2:29:59
4) Crain
5) Youngquist
6) Mosqueda
7) Lewy
8) Spangler
9) Russell
10) Linda Somers Smith
I think that is a solid top 10, and think I will see at those places adjusted more than any other names showing up. I have been wrong before........
Don't be too suprised if Sylvia takes the tape. She's tip top, with little to complain about. Her head strong ways wrapped around her coaches genius, will absolutly suprise the "ell out of us!
Deeja will win.
Does anyone know if the trials will be televised or
have livestream audio like the men's trials did??
Thank you.
1. Deena Drossin
The probability of her not making the team is very, very slim. She is the consumate professional.
It's going to be a hell of a fight for 2nd and 3rd. De Reuck, Mosqueda and Spangler will seperate themselves from the young guns. De Reuck will prevail for 2nd.
2. Colleen De Reuck
Spangler will add to her amazing legacy by finishing 3rd. Mosqueda will be the heartbreak story although fans will recognize honor in her performance.
3. Jenny Spangler
There will be no fewer than two dozen women under 2:40. Our top three will run 2:32 and faster. It will be a great day for American marathoning. ESPN will devote 90 seconds of coverage but it won't hinder my enjoyment in the least.
I think you meant that ESPN2 will donate 0.9 seconds to coverage. The will show the winner crossing the tape.
GO MAGDA!! I HOPE THAT YOU KICK SOME ASS!!
I'm surprised so few people mention Blake Russell. In her first marathon, she ran 2:30 all alone at Twin Cities while Deeja and Colleen screamed along a fast track in Chicago.
In addition, whereas she was working full-time during her Twin Cities build-up, she took a few months off this time around to focus on training. Barring an injury during the race, she's a lock for top three.
Watch out for Jenny Crain. She is well-trained and mentally tough.
I am surprised at your lack of contempt for the younger birds that are in the race! I think Sara Wells defintly has some part in making the Top 8, if not the Top 5. I've seen her in traning and she sure is a tough cookie!!! At 24, 2.35's a danm good time for someone whos never done a marathon before and therefore has lots of room for improvement down the line.
I speak up as one of her OSU tribe teamates, we'll be all the way with her in the race tommrrow.
Jenny Crain will not be Top 3, or even Top 5. She is too heavy for a marathoner. Not saying she is fat or anything but she is tall and has a lot more weight to carry. She just isn't as efficient. The small gals will take it.
less interesting now that Joan Benoit is out, even though she was running for fun. Whish I could make the trials at 40
Kastor
De Reuck
Youngquist
Lewy
Rhines
Russell
Mosqueda
Blake Russell just passed 2 miles in 10:44, and has built a 25 second lead on the huge chase pack
How do you know that? Is there coverage somewhere? Runners World hasn't updated their page...
